The Bush Doctrine

  • The Bush Doctrine refers to President George W. Bush's foreign policy stance post the 9/11 attacks. Explaining his philosophy regarding preemptive military strikes, President Bush said, "The United States of America has the sovereign authority to use force in assuring its own national security.Responding to such enemies only after they have struck first is not self-defense. It is suicide."Slate: Unauthorized Entry (March 20, 2003)
