Pakistan held a presidential election on October 6, 2007. It was an indirect election which took place in the Pakistani parliament as well as four provincial assemblies. The election was criticized because the two prominent opposition leaders Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto were kept out of the country by incumbent Pervez Musharraf's government. Many opposition parties boycotted the election, and Musharraf won the election by an overwhelming margin.
