Manny Pacquiao faced Ricky Hatton in a light welterweight bout on May 2, 2009. Pacquiao knocked down Hatton twice in the first round and then knocked him out in the second round at 2:59 of their bout. Hatton layed motionless on the canvas for several minutes unable to get up. It was Ricky Hatton's second loss in his career.

The fight took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The agreed upon weight for the fight was 140 pounds.
