The public-at-large knows him for his infamous bat-biting antics and lovably quirky behavior on his family's MTV reality show The Osbournes, but heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne is also a music pioneer, having co-founded what is commonly referred to as the first heavy metal band in Black Sabbath.
Going Solo
Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to his drug-induced unreliability, but with the substantial help of wife and manager Sharon Osbourne he was able to quickly release a solo album and begin a tour that launched a long and fruitful solo career—one of the few that, arguably, surpassed the artist's original band in popularity.
