Oscar Dresses 2010

Oscar fashion for 2010 was dominated by floor length dresses, while gold was a popular color choice. Sandra Bullock was one of the stand-outs of the red carpet. Observers noted that she would look good on stage accepting the award for Best Actress. She wore a sweeping, floor-length metallic champagne dress with a metallic floral bodice. Charlize Theron wore a strapless sweeping floor length pink/rose dress. Sarah Jessica Parker wore Chanel Couture down the red carpet.

Erlich has dressed Cruz, a nominee for this year's supporting actress prize, for award shows, premieres and other events for six years. She began this year's process with an extensive search for a gown in October, consulting with design teams. In 2009, Cruz wore a white vintage Pierre Balmain ball gown to the Oscars. Stylist Linda Medevene prepared lead actress nominee Gabourey Sidibe for the big night and agrees that thorough preparation is the key. Oscar day is "just relaxing. I'm there to make sure my client feels good and confident," she says. Medevene started working with the Precious star during promotion for the film and has continued through award season. Up until the Oscars, Sidibe had worn only Los Angeles-based designers (including Kevan Hall and Tadashi) but wore a different designer for the big show. While some actresses and stylists consider a number of dresses up until the last minute, nominee Anna Kendrick's (Up in the Air) stylist Jodi Leesley limits the number borrowed. "It really only takes one dress," she says. "They are going to only wear one dress, not 20, down the carpet. There's enough dresses for everyone." Leesley stresses that the important thing is giving the actresses a look that will be timeless. "It's about creating a picture that will still be beautiful in 50 years," she says. Nick Cannon interviews music diva Mariah Carey as she makes her way down the Oscars red carpet. Ryan Seacrest stands nearby, commenting positively on Carrey's blue dress. Nick Cannon noticed how short the dress was, using his hands to cover Carey's thighs while proclaiming, "Hide all that!"

Gabourey Sidibe, nominated for Best Actress in a Leading role thanks to her breakthrough performance in Precious, says the Oscars feel just like "the prom". Excited about the evening, Sidibe says the night is "awesome". She was wearing a blue dress with embroidered accents.

Mo'Nique talks about how she feels after receiving an Oscar nomiation for her performance in Precious. She says she feels "honored", however, she also mentioned that she felt honored for having the opportunity of performing in Soul Plane, a movie that came nowhere near the acclaim of Precious.

James Cameron talks about the positive feeling he gets when people go to see his movie more than once in the theater. The award-winning director says that an audience member usually goes once because of marketing, but when they go a second or even third time, it's a genuine compliment to the director.

Anna Kendrick tells the Oscar audience how her Oscar Dress, was a "last minute" decision after "many fittings".

Sigourney Weaver talks about the impact Avatar had on some fans. After doing several "world tours", fans tell Weaver that they movie struck an emotional chord with them, prompting a new flood of fan mail for the actress.

Fashion critics liked the "stronger shoulders" of Meryl Streep's dress at the 2010 Oscars. Experts didn't like how actresses were posing very rigidly, but other than that they thought the dresses, such as Streep's, were "picture perfect".

J Lo shows of her "swirl" at the Oscars, where she admitted to favoring Precious for best picture. "It was a very moving movie, a very tough movie to watch", she commented", but she said she felt it was "an amazing story" of "overcoming something".
