  Oscar De La Hoya was born in East Los Angeles on February 4, 1973. In 1992 at the Barcelona Olympic games, he won the gold medal in the lightweight division. After the Olympics, De La Hoya turned pro on November 23, 1992.

  Throughout his career in Boxing, De La Hoya has defeated several big name opponents. On June 7, 1996, De La Hoya defeated the boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez in three rounds by technical knockout. His next big victory was against Pernell Whitaker on April 12, 1997. De La Hoya won that bout by unanimous decision in the 12th round.
