Orlando

Orlando is consistently ranked as one of the top tourist destinations in the world. In 2003, Cranium Inc ranked Orlando as the 36th "Most Fun U.S City". History

Orlando was named after American soldier Orlando Reeves. No one knows the real story but it is said that he died fighting in the war against the Seminole Indians, others claim Orlando Reeves carved his name on a tree and many just assumed it was his grave marker so they called the area "Orlando's Grave". Soon it just became "Orlando".

  • 1838- Fort Gatlin was built by the U.S. Army to protect settlers from Indian attacks.
  • 1880 -South Florida Railroad extended its line into Orlando.
  • 1970-Orlando International Airport was built.

Climate

There are only two major seasons in Orlando, hot and rainy, and the cool season. This could be the reason they are a hot spot for college spring breaks. Summers average in the high 80s and winters are in the low 70s. http://www.cityoforlando.net/about_orlando.htm
