  • Orish Grinstead was born on June 2, 1980. She was a founding member of the popular R&B group 702.
  • Early Career

    She co-founded the group with her twin sister Irish Grinstead and sister Lameisha Grinstead, as well as their cousin Amelia. They struggled to get their band noticed until actor Sinbad happened to hear them play. He suggested the band call themselves Sweeta than Sugar. At an Atlanta talent show, they caught the attention of manager and producer, Michael Bivins. After singing on a single by rapper Subway, Orish left the band to pursue a solo career. She was replaced by friend Kameelah Williams, and the band renamed itself 302, after Las Vegas' area code. Orish rejoined 302 twice when Williams left to pursue solo interests, as well as temporarily filling the shoes of other members who were on short-term leave for other reasons.
  • Illness and Death

    Grinstead died on April 20, 2008 in her Las Vegas home due to kidney failure. According to reports, she was also recently diagnosed with cancer that had not yet been treated. Reporters state she had been told she only had a few months to live. She was 27 years old.
