Oreo Cookies

The incredibly popular Oreo Cookie is composed of a sweet white creme pressed between two chocolate cookies. Over the years, Nabisco has produced many different types of Oreo Cookies, including Mini Oreos, Double Stuf Oreos, Oreo Cakesters, and holiday themed Oreos for Halloween and Christmas.

Oreo as Ingredient

As popular as they are to eat plain or with milk, Oreo Cookies are also used frequently as ingredients in other desserts, such as some cookies and cream ice creams, milkshakes, Domino's Oreo Pizza, Jell-o Pudding, deep fried Oreos, Oreo pie crust and Oreo cheesecake.

Oreo History

The Oreo, a sandwiched cookie with creme filling, was introduce in 1912 by Nabisco Division of Kraft Foods. It looked much like it does today, except it had a different design on the chocolate cookie. In 1975 Nabisco release the Double Stuf Oreo. Other variations were introduce in 1987, fudge covered Oreo, in 1991 Halloween Oreo and in 1995 Christmas Oreos. The people at Nabisco are not sure how the name Oreo started, there are different believes. There have been over 491 billion Oreo cookies sold since it was introduced in 1912.
