One of Oregon Outdoors most outstanding features is the nearly 400 miles of coastline that can be rugged cliffs, forests or sandy dunes. You can find state park in which to bike, go crabbing, whale watch, surf, deep-sea fish and camp. Of course, you will also find the well known seafood and lighthouses. Sea Lion Cave is one of the world’s largest sea caves. You can take an elevator down into the 12 story high cave to see and hear the sea lions.

Drive the Columba River Highway for some beautiful scenery. You will see some soaring cliffs as high as 4,000 feet. You can learn the history of the river at the Columbia River Maritime Museum or the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Wasco County Historical Museum.

Mt. Hood sits 11,237 feet above sea level. It is a Cascade volcano and geologist believe it could one day be active again. Mt. Hood has 12 named glaciers and snowfields which covers about 80% of above the 6,900 foot level. There are 4 ski areas to enjoy in the winter months on the mountain.

Hells Canyon is the deepest river gorge in North American and you can see that at Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. This gorge was carved by the Snake River and drops more then a mile below Oregon’s west rim. Crater Lake has a depth of 1,943 feet and is the deepest and most pure lake in the United States. It is the seventh deepest lake in the world. It is known for it’s unique blue color and can be found at Crater Lake National Park.

Ashland offers 48 sites on the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places.
