In the midterm elections on November 2, 2010 Oregon voted for one Senate seat, five House of Representative seats, and governor. A full day following elections, Democrat John Kitzhaber was declared the winner in the Governor's race with his opponent Chris Dudley conceded. Kitzhaber held the office of Governor from 1995 to 2003.<ref>http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/03/democrat-wins-oregon-governor-race/?partner=rss&emc=rss

The Oregon primaries took place on May 18, 2010. The turnout, which forecasters thought would be only 36%, was actually 41% statewide with 50% of Oregon Republicans turning out and 45% of the registered Democrats. Unaffiliated and minor party voter turnout was at 24%.http://www.oregonlive.com/politics/index.ssf/2010/05/election_turnout_better_than_p.html

There were no real surprises in the primaries for the long-time blue state. The state of Oregon has had a long reputation of being a very liberal state, being the only state to ratify assisted suicide and they also have legalized medical marijuana.

Voting in Oregon is done by mail or by drop-off balloting. They are the only state to do so.http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0510/37471.html

Oregon was the 33rd state admitted into the Union. It received statehood on February 14, 1859.
