Orange chicken is a Hunan-based dish of mixed Chinese and American origin. A variant of General Tso's Chicken, Chinese restaurants in North America sell orange chicken with varying levels of spicyness depending on levels of included peppers. It can be prepared by either pan frying or deep frying.
Orange Chicken Ingredients
- Boneless, skinless chicken breast
- Olive oil
- 1 large orange
- Lemon Juice
- Vinegar
- Soy Sauce
- Brown sugar
- Ginger, Garlic, Green Onions
Preparing Orange Chicken
- To prepare the sauce, combine freshly squeezed orange juice, lemon juice, vinegar, soy sauce and water in a saucepan, and heat for several minutes.
- Grate it some orange zest, and add garlic, onion and ginger. Add chilies for desired heat.
- Once the liquid is boiling, let the mixture cool.
- Sprinkle the chicken with salt and pepper and coat with a thin layer of flour
- Heat peanut or olive oil in a wok and brown the chicken. Add the sauce and simmer for several minutes.
