Operation Ivy was a seminal punk-ska band from California's Bay Area. Full of high energy and intelligent lyrics, their cult-like fan base grew virtually overnight. As a part of the music scene that revolved around the famed 924 Gilman Street club in Berkeley, the band infused their music with socially conscience themes and pleas for social justice. Although the band was remarkably short-lived, Operation Ivy influenced many of today's biggest acts in punk rock, from Green Day to Blink-182. Two of the members of the band (Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman) went on to form the band Rancid.
