Oniomaniac, contrary to what it sounds like, is actually a person who is a compulsive shopper. With root words coming from the Greek language, rather than English, the word has actually confused some people with an over zealous love for onions. The term actually hit the Internet trends on Google in February 2009, primarily because of its association with the release of the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic.
