• Once is the story of two struggling musicians, starring Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, who develop a love for each other which they communicate through their music.

    Shot for only $160,000, the film was a critical and box office success in the United States winning the 2008 Independent Spirit Awards for Best Foreign Film and the 2008 Academy Award for the film's song "Falling Slowly."
  • Musical Leads

    Neither of the films leads, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, are trained actors, but both are professional musicians. Hansard is the lead singer of Irish band The Frames, and he and Irglova had recorded and toured as The Swell Season prior to filming. The two composed and performed all of the songs in the film.
