Protests
From the March 24, 2008 opening ceremony, the torch relay was interrupted by human rights protesters. Olympic Torch Protests stalled ceremonies in Greece, London, Paris, and San Francisco. Security measures have been enacted since these incidents, limiting routes to areas in and around national stadiums and audiences to officials and high profile supporters. Even in the face of reduced access, protests have continued, most notably in New Delhi, which is home to the Dalai Lama and Tibet's government in exile. -
