The Olympic Torch Relay passed through Muscat, Oman on April 14, 2008. Saad Al Shemmari, the captain of the Qatar national football team is planned to be the main torchbearer. Olympic officials are expecting the relay to be calmer then in Paris and San Francisco, where ceremonies were marred by Protests. The Government of Oman has implemented extensive security precautions to ensure that the relay goes without incident. Olympiv organizers are eager to avoid the controversy the relay faced in Paris and San Francisco. The torch will continue to Islamabad on April 16, 2008.
