The Olympic Torch Relay stopped in Kuala Lumpur on April 21, 2008. The torch followed a 10 mile route through the city and was carried by 80 torch bearers.
Security concerns
The Malaysian government was eager to avoid incidents like those that occurred earlier in the relay in Paris and San Francisco. Malaysia is home to a large number of Falun Gong supporters and exiles, as well as a sizable number of Tibetan Independence activists, both of which were expected to stage demonstrations during the relay ceremonies.Family arrested
The only major incident occured when a Japanese family, consisting of two adults and a small boy, unfurled a Tibetan flag along the relay route. They were heckled by Chinese spectators and hit with plastic batons before being arrested by Malaysian police. Officials reported that the family was detained for "documentation" before being released.-
