The Olympic Torch Relay continued to Tanzania with a section in and around Dar es Salaam on April 13, 2008. Olympic officials are expected this leg of the really, the only in Africa, to be calmer than previous visits to Paris and San Francisco, both of which were marked with Protests. However, Kenyan Nobel laureate Wangari Maathai stated she would not participate, publicly giving support to the ongoing protests. Despite this, the event was quiet and no protesters managed to disrupt the course of the Relay.
