Tang Yongming stabbed Americans Todd Bachman and Barbara Bachman on the first day of the Olympics at the Drum Tower, a Beijing landmark. Yongming threw himself off the tower and died immediately afterward. Todd Bachman died from his injuries. His wife, Barbara, was seriously wounded. Their daughter, Elisabeth Bachman-McCutcheon, was present but not injured during the event. McCutcheon is married to the U.S. Olympic volleyball coach Hugh McCutcheon, who was not at the scene of the incident.
