Olympic Speed Skating 2010

12 speed skating events were held at the 2010 Winter Olympics, six for men and six for women. All events were held at the Richmond Olympic Oval, just outside Vancouver in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, between February 13 and February 27, 2010.http://www.vancouver2010.com/olympic-speed-skating-schedule-results/

Men competed in the 500m, 1,000m, 1,500m, 5,000m, 10,000m and team pursuit events while the women competed in the 500m, 1,000m, 1,500m, 3,000m, 5,000m and team pursuit events. Background

First introduced in with the men's tournament in 1924, the women's tournament was added to the program in 1960. The United States leads all nations in gold medals, with 28, while Norway leads in total medals with 79. At the 2006 Winter Olympics, the Netherlands took home the most medals, winning a total of nine. Canada followed with eight and the United States placed third in total speed skating medals at seven.
