    Netherlands is considered to be the cradle of this sport although this game became quite very popular in United States, Canada and European countries. The Olympic congress agreed to include speed skating on Summer Olympics of 1914 which was canceled due to the World War II. Therefore speed skating was first featured in the Summer Olympics of 1924. Short track speed skating was accepted as an Olympic sport in 1992.
