Background

Olympic snowboarding competitions were introduced in 1998 at the Olympic games held in Nagano, Japan. The parallel giant slalom is a giant downhill race that was introduced to the competition in 2002.http://library.thinkquest.org/3885/olympics.html This replaced two separate giant downhill events that were originally held at the first snowboarding event in Nagano. The snowboard cross country event was introduced to the games at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.http://www.nbcolympics.com/snowboarding/index.html
