    Olympic snowboarding competitions were introduced in 1998 at the Olympic games held in Nagano, Japan. The parallel giant slalom is a giant downhill race that was introduced to the competition in 2002.http://library.thinkquest.org/3885/olympics.html This replaced two separate giant downhill events that were originally held at the first snowboarding event in Nagano.
