Biathlon is a combination of skiing and shooting, and the Olympic Biathlon was first contested at the Winter Olympics in 1924 under the name Military patrol. It was demonstrated at the next three Winter Games. Biathlon has a history of being an alternative training for the Norwegian soldiers. In the first years of the Winter Olympics the contest was called Military Patrol, but wasn't included until the Olympics in 1960 because the few countries who participated in the event couldn't agree on the rules.
