Ol' Dirty Bastard, born Russell Jones, was one of the founding members of the Wu-Tang Clan.
Solo Career
He released the two critically acclaimed solo albums, Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version in 1995 and 1999s Nigga Please. Both albums have been certified gold by the RIAA.
Son Unique was scheduled to be released before his death in 2004 but Roc-a-Fella Records canceled the release. It has been reported the album will now be released on the Damon Dash Music Group imprint. No release date has been given.
Legal Troubles
Between 1993 and 1999, ODB was arrested five times for various crimes including shop-lifting and failure to pay child support. In 2000 he escaped from a mandatory drug rehabilitation facility and was a fugitive for a month.
ODB was arrested again in 2000 and sentenced to two to four years in prison. It was reported he attempted suicide shorty after sentencing. ODB was released from prison in May 2003.
Death
On November 13, 2004 ODB collapsed in a New York City recording studio. An hour later he was pronounced dead. The cause of death was reported to be heart failure due to a cocaine overdose.
