  • The Oklahoma Sooners is one of the most respected and successful programs in the history of college football. The Sooners have had four players win the Heisman Trophy award, and hold the record with 47 consecutive victories, achieved from 1953 to 1957. The school currently plays as a member of the South Division of the Big 12 Conference.

    The Sooners have won 41 conference championships. Billy Vessels, Steve Owens, Billy Sims and Jason White have each won the Heisman Trophy. Other great players in Sooners history include Adrian Peterson, Greg Pruitt, Lee Roy Selmon, Tommy McDonald, Teddy Lehman, Roy Williams, J.D. Roberts, Brian Bosworth, Joe Washington, Keith Jackson and Tommie Harris. The school has also been known for several outstanding coaches including Bennie Owen, Bud Wilkinson, Chuck Fairbanks, Barry Switzer and current coach Bob Stoops.
