A series of tornadoes touched down in several cities in Oklahoma, including Oklahoma City, on February 10, 2009. Extensive damage was reported and many homes were destroyed. About 100 miles south of Oklahoma City, the town of Lone Grove got torn apart by a tornado that cut a half-mile swath through the area around 7:30 p.m. on February 10, 2009. At least eight people were killed and dozens more were injured. March 2008 Tornadoes
Central and western Oklahoma experienced large tornado-producing storms on March 30 and 31, 2008. At the height of the storms the state's utility, Oklahoma Gas and Electric, reported approximately 7,300 customers without power, with 4,355 more in the Piedmont area and 1,240 in north Oklahoma City, and 1,200 in Edmond. Baseball-sized hail was reported three miles south of Rocky, north of Hobart. The National Weather Service warned of severe thunderstorms in the area on March 31 for parts of Oklahoma and Kansas.
