Oklahoma City

  • Oklahoma City is the state capital of Oklahoma, nicknamed "The Big Friendly."
  • History

Oklahoma City was founded on April 22, 1889, and was at first a tent city for 10,000 homesteaders. After World War II, the city grew thanks to the Interstate Highway System, which intersected three major highways there, and the discovery of oil within the city limits.

Since 1993, the city has undergone several redevelopments, renovating various buildings and parks to the delight of residents and visitors alike.

Oklahoma City has gradually become a center for technology and health services, and enjoyed a surge of economic output since 2001.

  • Terrorism

On April 19, 1995, Timothy McVeigh parked and set off a truck bomb at the Murrah Federal Building. The explosion killed 160 people in the building, and is one of the worst acts of terrorism on U.S. soil.
