Oink Shut Down

October 23, 2007: British and Dutch police shut down the Bit Torrent website Oink, a source of illegally-downloaded music.

  1. A flat on Teesside, England and properties in Amsterdam were raided as part of an Interpol investigation into the members-only website
  2. The UK-run site has leaked 60 major pre-release albums this year
  3. A 24-year-old man from Middlesbrough, England was arrested
  4. Message on the official Oink site: "This site has been closed as a result of a criminal investigation by IFPI, BPI, Cleveland Police and the Fiscal Investigation Unit of the Dutch Police (FIOD ECD) into suspected illegal music distribution. A criminal investigation continues into the identities and activities of the site's users.
