  • Of Montreal are a baroque indie pop band from Georgia, associated with the Elephant 6 music collective. The band is notable for its whimsical sound and amorphous song structures. Their ninth album, Skeletal Lamping, was released on October 7, 2008.
  • Early Years

Kevin Barnes formed Of Montreal in 1997, and the early albums' lo-fi pop sound reflect Barnes' quirky stage appearance and troubled personal relationships. He notably came up with the band name after a failed romance with a Montreal woman. After the release of The Gay Parade in 1999, the band signed with Kindercore records, under which they released two albums.
  • Are You The Destroyer?

On Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?, Barnes further explores themes of loneliness and depression, mixing dark lyrics with upbeat melodies and orchestration. The album was widely praised and appeared on many lists of the best albums of 2007.
