Obama Plane Unscheduled Landing

  • An MD-81 jet containing presidential hopeful Barack Obama and dozens of members of the press and Obama's campaign staff, was forced to make an unscheduled landing in St. Louis, Missouri, on July 7, 2008, when pilots reported a problem with "controllability" aboard the aircraft.   • Plane Controllability Problem

    After taking off from Chicago's Midway International Airport, pilots reported "controllability issues" involving the pitch of the aircraft. Although an onboard mechanic was able to correct the problem in-flight, the pilots decided to make an unscheduled landing in St. Louis as a precautionary measure. Obama was flying to a campaign appearance in Charlotte, North Carolina, when the problem occurred.
