  • Obama's Lead

While most other national polls show Obama with only a four or five point lead, the results of the Newsweek poll are a radical departure from the results collected the last time the two were pitted head-to-head by the magazine. In a Newsweek poll conducted in late May, Obama and McCain were tied, with 46% each. Newsweek surmises that Obama's "bounce" is related to Hillary Clinton's departure from the race and her endorsement of the Illinois Senator. Other polls taken recently estimate Obama leading by a smaller margin. Newsweek: Poll: Obama Opens Up 15-Point Lead (June 20, 2008)
