President Barack Obama addressed a joint session of Congress on September 9, 2009 to make his case for health care reform. In his speech, he addressed the lies, myths, and misconceptions about health care reform and made the case for a form of the public option to be included in the legislation.
The President was heckled and called a liar during the speech by Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) after Obama stated that claims that illegal aliens would be covered by health care reform legislation were false. Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA) gave the Republican response to the address.
