At least two restaurants in predominantly black New York City neighborhoods came under fire in March and April 2009 after using Barack Obama's name on the signs of their fried chicken businesses. Brooklyn's Obama Fried Chicken and Harlem's Obama Fried Chicken & Pizza caught the eye of racial demonstrators and protesters who believe the use of his name in the business signs are offensive.
Brooklyn's Obama Fried Chicken has promised that there sign will be changed by April 5, 2009. Community activist Kevin McCall and City Councilman Charles Barron say that if the dead line is not met they plan on rallying outside of the resturant. Harlem's Obama Fried Chicken & Pizza filled in the letters "O" and "A" on the business's awning on April 3, 2009, so the sign now reads "Bam."
