Oasis formed in 1991, originally calling themselves The Rain. The band's original lineup consisted of singer Liam Gallagher, guitarist Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs, bassist Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan and drummer Tony McCarroll. Liam's older brother, Noel, joined later and became the band's primary songwriter.

Their album Be Here Now is the fastest selling album in chart history, having sold nearly 500,000 copies on the day it was released. The band has sold over 50 million albums worldwide throughout their career. They often cite The Beatles as an influence on their songwriting. Zak Starkey, son of Beatles' drummer Ringo Starr, joined Oasis as their drummer in 2006.
