  • Northwestern University is known more for its scholastics than its athletics, and its Wildcats college football team is no exception, having lost more games than any other Division I program in college football history. They did however win their first-ever bowl appearance, the 1948 Rose Bowl, and have won the Big Ten Conference title eight times.

The Northwestern Wildcats fell to the Missouri Tigers, 30-23 in overtime, in the Alamo Bowl on December 29, 2008.ESPN.com: Missouri Tigers vs. Northwestern Wildcats Box Score

  • Walker Legacy

Randy Walker coached the Wildcats from 1999 to 2005 and was responsible for a wide-open offense that resulted in three bowl trips and a Big Ten title in the 2000 season. Walker died of a heart attack after the 2005 season and was replaced by former NU standout Pat Fitzgerald. At the time of his appointment, Fitzgerald was the youngest coach in Division I by five years.
