Northern Ireland Conflict

  • Commonly referred to as "The Troubles," the Northern Ireland Conflict was a period of civil and political unrest in Northern Ireland, which began in the late 1960's, and continued until the Belfast Peace Agreement of 1998CAIN Web Service: Address by Mr David Andrews. There are many causes attributed to the conflict, including British rule of Northern Ireland, ethnic discrimination, and religious intolerance.
  • History

    The Troubles date back to 17th century British domination of Ireland. The 20th century conflict, however, arises from the 1921 division of Ireland that left the six counties of Northern Ireland as part of Great Britain.
