A shooting near a residence hall at Northern Illinois University on the morning of February 19, 2010, left 1 person injured. Witnesses reported hearing a loud shot ringing through the dormitory building known as Stevenson Hall. Police believe the crime resulted from an altercation between 2 individuals.
The shooting happened just a week after the 2 year anniversary of another shooting on the NIU campus, in which a gunman murdered 5 other students before killing himself. It is not believed the two crimes are connected.http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/02/19/national/main6223204.shtml
2008 Incident
A shooting on the campus of Northern Illinois University on February 14, 2008 left 6 people dead, including the gunman, Steve Kazmierczak, and a total of 22 people injured. Reports of a white male shooter armed with a shotgun and a pistol went out to police at around 3 p.m.
On February 15, 2010, just a few days before the 2010 shooting that left 1 student injured, a candlelight vigil was held to remember the victims of the 2008 incident.
