North Korea Frees Journalists

  • American journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee were detained in North Korea in March of 2009 for illegally entering the country while hiking.

    Initially sentenced to perform 12 years of hard labor, the two journalists received a pardon and were released on August 4, 2009. The news came after former President Bill Clinton traveled to North Korea to meet with Kim Jong Il.http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8184583.stm
