History
North Dakota was granted statehood in November of 1889. Since then they have participated in 29 Presidential Elections, voting Republican 24 times.
North Dakota, a state where there is no voter registration is historically a Republican leaning Mecca. Not since 1964 when they cast their 3 Electoral votes for Lyndon B. Johnson has the state supported a Democratic political party candidate. The state currently holds the minimum of 3 electoral votes.
To avoid voter fraud, members of the election board have the right to challenge any voter they feel is casting a vote illegally. Authorized persons representing political parties are also allowed to monitor the general election and issue challenges to a voter in question. If someone attempting to vote falsely swears to being a qualified elector, he or she is guilty of a class A misdemeanor.http://www.cga.ct.gov/2004/rpt/2004-R-0032.htm
One note of consequence is that in 2008 both North Dakota state senators were representatives of the Democratic Party. Even so, Democratic candidate Barrack Obama was defeated by Republican Party candidate John McCain by 8 percentage points.
