North Country is a dramatic film based on a true story about the first successful United States sexual harassment case.
Background
North Country was directed by Niki Caro who directed the critically acclaimed film Whale Rider starring Keisha Castle-Hughes. The film was loosely based on Lois Jenson who worked at the EVTAC mine, and settled her suit 14 years after she filed the suit. The case was considered a Landmark trial that Changed the Sexual Harassment Law. For their work on the film Charlize Theron and Frances McDormand, were each nominated for Oscars for their performances, Theron for Best Actress, and McDormand for Best Supporting Actress. The film opened to generally positive reviews and grossed $23,624,242 worldwide at the box office.
