Norman Finkelstein is an American author and professor of political science.
Characterized by what has been widely called a polemic style, Finkelstein's work has caused considerable controversy. The majority of his research relates to the Holocaust and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.
He has become known for his defense of Palestine and his criticism of other scholars.
In 2007 Finkelstein was denied tenure as DePaul University, which cited his tendency to make "unprofessional personal attacks" as the reason for the denial. Many people have claimed that the decision was influenced by Alan Dershowitz, who had actively campaigned against a tenure nomination. The tenure board of DePaul University denies that Dershowitz had any influence on their decision.
