Norman Blake is talented Grammy nominated and award winning multi-instrumentalist, guitarist extraordinaire, and songwriter. He played with many different country artists, but eventually began playing for June Carter and Johnny Cash in 1963. The couple was and still is considered pioneers in the Bluegrass movement in the southeastern United States. Throughout their marriage, they played music together and began making a career together in the music world. Their music was considered to be elegant yet open-hearted voices to many of their fans, but their music was unlike anything fans had heard before.
In 2005, they released an album titled “Back Home In Sulphur Springs”, which was a fourteen song collection that debuted on the Western Jubilee’s Plectrafone Records label. Norman Blake and his wife Nancy were highlighted on the weekly radio show called, “Prairie Home Companion” on April 28, 2007. Background & Career
Norman Blake was born in Chattanooga, TN on March 10, 1938, but he was raised in Sulphur Springs, GA and Rising Fawn, GA. He enjoyed listening to the country radio programs like The Grand Ole Opry and WSN, like most of his rural neighbors. As he grew he learned to play a variety of instruments, including the guitar. He wrote songs and performed from early in his career, until he was called to serve in the ARMY in 1961.
