Origin

The Nobel Peace Prize was one award that industrialist Alfred Nobel established in his will. According to Nobel, the prize was to be given to those who "...have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding of peace congresses." Nobel dictated that the recipient would be chosen by a committee of five elected people of the Norwegian Storting.http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/peace/articles/lundestad-review/
