The No Pants Subway Ride is an annual event organized each January by the performance art troupe Improv Everywhere, in which subway riders take off their pants to ride the subway. Underwear is not optional.
Approximately 2,500 people participated in the No Pants Subway Ride on January 11, 2009, 1,500 of them in New York City. The New York group split into groups of 300 to ride the 1, E, R and 6 lines. In 21 other cities in eight other countries people participated in subways, light rail cars, and buses.MSNBC: Underground With Their Pants Down (January 15, 2009)
