New York State Governor Eliot Spitzer has abaondoned his campaign to allow illegal immigrants to receive drivers licenses. Spitzer had claimed that the INS had failed in its duty to curb the influx of illegals into his state, and that the license plan would provide a method of managing the immigrant population. While public opinion, media scrutiny, and the upcoming presidential election have killed Spitzer's campaign, the "licenses for illegals" debate is sure to continue.
