The new Nintendo DSi is the latest handheld video game console of the Nintendo DS series. The Nintendo DSi has a larger screen than the Nintendo DS, a thinner design and includes a camera.

Nintendo announced the North American release date and pricing details for the DSi on February 18, 2009. The system will hit North American stores on April 5 at a price point of $169.99. The system will initally be available in two colors: black and blue.

Nintendo also confirmed that it will be releasing DSiWare for the system, though no release date was given. DSiWare will enable DSi owners to download new content via the Internet, similar to Apple's App Store for iPhone.

The addition of the DSi does not signal the end of Nintendo's support for the DS Lite. A Nintendo rep told GameSpot: "The DS Lite will continue to be supported at retail alongside the DSi.
