Nintendo DSi Release Date

  • New rumors claim that Nintendo's upcoming handheld gaming console, the DSi, will be released in the U.S. in April 2009.
  • Release Date Announced

Nintendo announced the North America release date and pricing details for the DSi on February 18, 2009. The system will hit North American stores on April 5 at a price point of $169.99. The system will initally be available in two colors: black and blue.

Nintendo also confirmed that it will be releasing DSiWare for the system, though no release date was given. DSiWare will enable DSi owners to download new content via the Internet, similar to Apple's App Store for iPhone.

The addition of the DSi does not signal the end of Nitnendo's support for the DS Lite. A Nintendo rep told GameSpot: "The DS Lite will continue to be supported at retail alongside the DSi. The DSi is not meant to replace the other systems. There has been no news in terms of a price drop."GameSpot: $170 DSi drops in US April 5
