Ninja Gaiden Golden Scarab Info
The Golden Scarabs are hidden in out-of-the-way places throughout the game. When enough are collected, they can be traded to the merchant Muramasa for weapon upgrades and extra items. For instance, the Armlet of Tranquility (40 Golden Scarabs) will gradually refill Ryu's health when equipped.-
Introduction
- This walkthrough will guide you through Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox on the "normal" difficulty setting.
- There are several versions of Ninja Gaiden that should be noted. There is the original Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Gaiden with the downloadable hurricane packs, and Ninja Gaiden Black.
- While the main story for each of the games is the same, there are some differences in item placement, save point placement and boss strategies.
- In this walkthrough, we tried to catch all of the differences that we could, but if there is some discrepancy between what is happening in the game and what is happening within this guide, understand that this is the reason why.
- To kick off this walkthrough, let's first go over some general strategies and tactics that will help you all throughout the game.
-
-
Ultimate Techniques
- Ultimate techniques are a hugely important component of Ninja Gaiden's combat system for two reasons.
- The first and most obvious reason is that they are extremely powerful attacks and can defeat most smaller enemies in one move.
- The second reason is that defeating an enemy with an ultimate attack as opposed to a standard attack will garner you much more yellow essence, which you can use to upgrade your weapons and buy more health potions.
- You can perform an ultimate technique simply by holding Y and waiting until Ryu charges his sword to level one or two. However, this takes a very long time and the aggressive AI of your enemies will almost never let you have that much time to charge.
- Fortunately, there is a faster way to charge your ultimate technique. While in the stance for an ultimate technique, you will become an essence vacuum.
- Absorbing one yellow essence will instantly charge you to level one, while absorbing more will instantly put you at level two. Absorbing one blue or one red essence will also instantly charge you to level two.
- To use Ultimate Techniques effectively, you must avoid collecting yellow essence normally. Then, quickly absorb it so that you charge a level two ultimate technique when an enemy comes within range.
- Keep in mind that while holding the block button or while attacking, you cannot absorb essence.
-
Jump Charge
- A small tip that is related to the ultimate technique is the jump charge. By jumping and holding Y the instant you land, Ryu will immediately go into the stance for an ultimate technique, canceling much of the start-up animation that is present by simply holding Y.
- This is an invaluable skill that will tremendously help you deal with a group of difficult enemies.
-
The Flying Swallow
- Once you upgrade your Dragon Sword to level two you will obtain the Flying Swallow technique (Forward jump + Y)
- When dealing with smaller enemies, it's a good idea to start off using the Flying Swallow to see if you can decapitate one or two enemies, and then use their remaining essence to charge up an ultimate technique.
- Combining this with the two tips above can help you clear out a room of enemies very quickly and efficiently. You will take little damage and absorb a lot of yellow essence.
-
The Izuna Drop
- When you get the chance, be sure to buy the Izuna Drop scroll from Muramasa.
- The technique is performed by pressing X X Y X X X Y.
- The Izuna Drop is a spinning piledriver. Ryu knocks the enemy into the air, slashes them three times and then slams them down into the ground.
- This technique is invaluable for several reasons. For one, it is an instant kill on any small enemy that you catch with it.
- Secondly, it puts Ryu out of harms way while in the air. He is invulnerable while the spinning piledriver is in motion.
- Finally, the Izuna Drop is a great crowd control maneuver as any enemy near the spot where Ryu crashes down will get knocked down and will suffer damage.
-
Rolling
- Rolling is performed by holding down the Left Trigger and pressing the Left Thumbstick in any direction.
- Rolling is one of the most important techniques you'll learn in the game. It keeps you on the defensive without leaving you open to getting grabbed or having your guard broken, which is what will happen if you stand around holding block all day.
- Learn to roll to the side of an enemy attack, and immediately start an attack of your own to punish them.
-
Roll Jumping
- Roll jumping is done by jumping at the end of a roll, rolling after you land the jump, and then repeating the process (LT + Left Thumbstick + A.)
- Doing so will cancel the lag time caused by rolling, allowing Ryu to move much faster than he would by just running.
- This is a vital technique for avoiding projectiles and will make backtracking much less tedious.
-
Counter Attacks
- Once you acquire the scroll from the Horseman boss in level three, you will be able to perform counter attacks.
- To do so, hold down the Left Trigger and press X or Y right before the enemy strikes you. While counter attacks are very useful to give yourself some breathing room, remember that it is a defensive maneuver (Unless you are using the Dabilahro). Abuse of using the counter attack will be met by enemies grabbing you or performing guard breaks. Use it sparingly and it will be your best friend.
- With these techniques, you should be able to handle most of the standard enemies throughout the game. Now that you've got all of that down, let's jump right into Ninja Gaiden.
-
Chapter 1 - The Way of the Ninja
- Once you gain control of Ryu, examine the nearby body to find an Elixir of Spiritual Life.
- Now head up the ramp to your left.
- As you continue along this path, you'll eventually run into a wall that blocks your way. Run up this wall to grab the very top. Shimmy to the right until you can pull yourself up.
- You'll find a chest containing an Elixir of Spiritual Life to your right.
- Run up the wall where the purple pinwheel shuriken landed and pull yourself up.
- Run across the branch of the tree to trigger your first battle against two Brown Ninjas.
- Brown Ninjas are just about the easiest enemies you'll face in the game outside of bats, so use them to get used to the combat system of the game. Stick to simple combos like X X Y and X X X as they are quick and should still be enough to kill them in one go.
- Once they're taken care of, run along the wall to get to the next platform where you'll find a chest containing a Great Spirit Elixir.
- Leap to the branch and jump to the cave entrance.
- Follow the short path, run up the wall to your left and jump off to land on the platform to your right.
- Two ninjas will run to fight you with a third waiting for you around the corner. Deal with them and then break the pots to find some more yellow essence.
- Turn left to where the last ninja ambushed you and bounce off the walls to reach the courtyard of the Ninja Fortress.
- Here, you'll be attacked by two ninjas. Once they're taken care of, head up the stairs and through the door where you'll be attacked by three more ninjas.
- There are several pots in this room that you can break to release yellow essence, which you can use to quickly charge up an Ultimate Technique and eliminate the enemies in here easily.
- Once the enemies are taken care of, collect the Map of the Ninja Fortress in the chest to the right of the door you entered from.
- Enter through the revolving secret door and take a couple of steps forward to cause the doors to lock and enemies to start dropping from the ceiling.
- After defeating all of the ninjas and causing the doors to unlock, exit through the white sliding door.
- In this next room, head north to find one Elixir of Spiritual Life in plain sight on the left, and another right across from it on the right. Now head back where more ninjas should be waiting for you around the left corner. Take care of them and then proceed up the stairs and through the door.
- More ninjas will drop down from the ceiling in this next room. Be sure to open the chest here as it contains a very important Lives of the Thousand Gods, which will increase your maximum health.
- Cut through the banner on the right side of the room to reveal a secret room where you'll be confronted by several brown ninjas in addition to much more difficult White Ninjas.
- White ninjas are much more dangerous than brown ninjas and can give newcomers a run for their money, especially this early in the game when Ryu doesn't have many techniques.
- The best way to take care of these guys is to hit them with your X Y X air combo, and then charge up an ultimate attack as soon as you land. If there is no essence in the room, don't bother charging it up.
- Remember to balance a good defense with a strong offense. If you attack too often, you'll wind up taking damage and wasting precious health potions.
- You don't have to eliminate all of these enemies if you don't want to. Regardless, you eventually want to end up on the trap door on the opposite end of the room from where you came in, which will drop you into the underground storehouse.
- Break the pots behind you and open the treasure chest to find a Great Spirit Elixir.
- Use your shuriken on the bats to attempt and get some life back, in case those white ninja dealt some heavy damage.
- When you reach the two torches, turn left to find a chest with the Fangs of the Samurai.
- Break the two torches and proceed outside. Jump up the steps and run up the wooden planks. There are brown ninjas awaiting you around the corner to your left.
- Head up the catwalk and into the door way. Before jumping down, grab the Talisman of Rebirth in the chest to your left.
- Jump down and go back to where you found those two elixirs of life and place the Fangs of the Samurai into the statue at the back. It will open its hand and give you the Key of Courage.
- Now go back to the room with the trap door and instead of falling through the trap door, jump over it and go through the slit in the wall.
- Save here as you're going to be fighting a lot of white ninjas in the near future.
- Head up the stairs and eliminate the two white ninjas guarding the way. Once they're done, use the Key of Courage to enter the door at the end of the path.
- You'll be fighting a whole group of white ninjas here, so it's time to put all of your skills to use. The upcoming boss fight is tough, so if you find yourself using too many health potions here, reload your save and try to do it better.
- Once they're all dead, it is highly recommended that you run back to the save point and save. The time you spend backtracking to the save will be a lot less than the time you spend trying to beat all of these ninjas again if you die against Murai.
- Head through the door at the top of the stairs for your first boss battle.
-
BOSS: Murai
- There are two ways to beat Murai. You can beat him cheaply, or you can beat him like a true ninja.
- The cheap way is simply to spam wall run attacks. Run close to a wall, and when Murai gets near, run up it, jump off, press Y, roll away, wash, rinse, and repeat.
- If you prefer a fun and more challenging battle with your nunchuck wielding master, you're going to need to face him head on.
- Murai mostly attacks with nunchuck combos, but if you block too much, he'll grab you and punish you for it.
- Your strategy here should mostly consist of using quick combos, then rolling away, then starting up another combo while Murai is trying to hit you with his. Mix in a few wall run attacks as well for some easy damage.
- If you need an extra health potion, you'll find an Elixir of Spiritual Life at the back of the room in a breakable pot.
- Eventually, when you bring Murai down to about 15% of his health, the battle will end and you will have completed chapter 1.

Chapter 2 - The Hayabusa Ninja Village
- If you didn't grab the health potion during the battle with Murai, go ahead and grab it now by breaking the pot.
- It's backtracking time, so head all the way back outside the ninja fortress where you began the first level. Jump all the way down to the bottom of the valley and continue along the path until you come across an altar.
- Pick up the Art of the Fire Wheels ninpo, jump into the elevator and head down.
- Once you reach the bottom, jump backwards out of the elevator to find a chest with an Elixir of Spiritual Life. Don't forget to equip your new ninpo either.
- Head north out of the cave and run across the wall to reach the next platform. Open the chest on your right for an Elixir of the Devil Way.
- NOTE: If you are playing Ninja Gaiden Black, there will be smoke bombs in this chest instead.
- Travel down the path to your left and you'll be attacked by three Samurais. They're a little bit tougher than the brown ninjas from earlier, but the same tactics still apply.
- Once they're finished, continue down the path until you reach a slope. Slide down, and jump off to grab onto the tree branches. Leap across the branches and fall down to solid ground where you'll find a couple of samurais waiting for you. A Samurai Sorcerer will also join the party to give you some trouble.
- Always try to keep the samurai sorcerer in your sights so you can see when a fireball is coming. When he gets close he'll use a long and dangerous combo with his sais. Be sure to block the whole combo before you attack him yourself.
- Once all threats are taken care of, climb the ladder on the watchtower to find a Map of the Hayabusa Village
- Continue down the path and jump off the broken bridge into the river below. Swim over to the wooden dock and pull yourself up. Immediately turn around to see a small alcove on the opposite end. Run on top of the water walking on to the water and continuously pressing A. Once you reach the alcove, turn left to find a chest with a Life of the Gods
- Return to the wooden dock and climb up the wall to reach a dragon statue. Save your game here. Across from the dragon statue is a chest with an Elixir of Spiritual Life
- Run up the stairs to enter the Hayabusa Village. Make a left as soon as you enter the village and follow the trail to find a corpse holding an Elixir of Spiritual Life.
- Return to the center of the village and proceed forward. You'll be attacked by more samurai. Take them out and continue with your exploring. At the far end of the village you'll find a Statue Head lying near a corpse. Pick it up and return to the entrance of the village. You'll find a group of statues to your left, with one missing a head. Place the Statue Head on the headless statue to receive a Life of the Gods
- At the center of the village on the left side there is what looks to be the scaffolding of a building.
- NOTE: If you are playing Ninja Gaiden Black, this is where you'll find the Lunar Staff.
- Wall run up until you jump into the window of a building.
- NOTE: If you are playing Ninja Gaiden Black, a cutscene will play where Ayane will give you the bow.
- Drop down the hole to find a storehouse with plenty of goodies. Here you'll find a Bow (if you're not playing Ninja Gaiden Black), an Elixir of Spiritual Life, an Elixir of the Devil Way and a Muramasa Statue. Examine the Muramasa statue to do some shopping.
- NOTE: If you're playing Ninja Gaiden Black, you will not have the option of upgrading your Dragon Sword to level 2 at this time. Spend your money instead on the Art of Inferno ninpo and health potions.
- If you have the yellow essence, upgrade your Dragon Sword to level 2 as it will give you access to the Flying Swallow technique. If you have left over money, use it to buy the Art of the Inferno ninpo and elixirs.
- Once you're done shopping, head outside. You'll be attacked by more samurai. Once again, try to focus on the magic samurai first, or at least keep him in your sights at all times.
- Once done, grab the arrows from the downed soldiers and head around the corner. Make sure your bow is equipped.
Mini Boss: Horsemen Riders
- The best way to take these guys down is to shoot them off their horse first. It only takes about two direct hits with the bow to accomplish this, but it is easier said than done.
- Focus on one horseman at a time, but always try to keep a mental note of where the other one is. Unless both riders are visible and far enough away to be considered safe, you should rarely fire off more than one arrow at a time and never more than two. After you fire an arrow, roll out of the way, roll jump around to an open spot, and then fire another arrow off. Remember to lead your arrows to where the rider is about to go.
- Once you knock a rider off, they become a normal samurai and can be taken out easily.
- If you run out of arrows, the corpse lying on the ground provides an unlimited supply.
- There are four riders total, but only two will attack you at a time, thankfully.
- If the bow isn't working for you, you could always try using the Flying Swallow (jump forward + Y) if you upgraded your Dragon Sword to level 2.
- Once you take down a horse and its rider, you can use their essence to charge an Ultimate Technique to unleash on the remaining horse riders.
- Once you defeat all four, collect another resupply of arrows, and jump over the now extinguished stack of wood.
- Save your game, examine the corpse to your right for a Great Spirit Elixir, and head through the large doors. Walk a couple of paces forward and you'll be met with the next boss.
BOSS: Rider Captain
- Like Murai, you can beat this boss cheaply by simply using wall attacks whenever he gets near.
- If you don't want to be cheap though, get ready for a pretty tough battle this early on in the game.
- What makes this fight extra annoying is the fact that the boss is accompanied by several samurai sorcerers who love to bombard you with fireballs while you try to shoot the boss. These enemies don't stop respawning, so they should only be dealt with in case you need some extra health.
- The bow does some great damage to this boss, but forget about manual aiming as it's simply too slow. Instead, try to line up the camera with the boss, and shoot arrows without touching the control stick
- Other tactics you should employ here are to lure the boss over to a corner, roll out of the way when he's about to trample you, get in two or three slashes, and then roll out of the way since he'll slash you as he turns around.
- You can also use the samurai sorcerer's essence as food for your UT's, which you can use on the boss himself. Doing so will take out a humongous chunk of his health.
- The big thing you should watch out for is when the boss grabs you with his spear, drags you along the ground, and then throws you off. This can deal massive damage and can be devastating with your small life bar. Make sure he doesn't hit you with it by avoiding being directly in front of him when he gets close.
- Blip.tv: Ninja Gaiden Walkthrough - BOSS #2: Rider Captain (Time: 1:41)
- Once he's dead, pick up the Technique Scroll: Counter-Attack, and head through the doors to end the chapter.
Chapter 3 - Skies of Vengeance
- Right when you start you'll find a dragon statue and a Elixir of the Devil Way in your room.
- Exit your room and enter the room right across from you. Here you'll find an Elixir of Spiritual Life sitting on the table.
- Exit this room, proceed down the hallway, and enter the room on the left side. There is a chest here that contains an Airship Map. Once you obtain it, the room will be stormed by Soldiers. These guys are a bit more dangerous than the previous enemies that you've faced due to their fondness of guns. Ryu can block bullets so when they start shooting, immediately start blocking and then roll jumping towards them. They also have a grab where they will slit your throat and deal some big damage, so be careful of overblocking when you're up close.
- Exit this room and enter room 3-2 on the right side to find another Elixir of Spiritual Life.
- Return to the main hallway and proceed to where the double doors are. You'll be attacked by more soldiers. When dealing with these guys, remember that you can now also perform counter attacks by pressing X or Y while guarding right before the enemy hits you. Counter attacks are a great way to give you some breathing room against aggressive enemies.
- Once all enemies are taken care of, pick up the wing key and enter through the double doors.
- You'll now be at the main deck. There are a couple of things to take note of here. There are two spiral staircases on the right and left sides of the room. The right one will lead you to a dragon statue where you can, and should, save your game. The doors here are locked so you don't have to worry about them for now.
- The staircase on the left will lead you to a Muramasa Statue, which I highly suggest you use to upgrade your Dragon Sword to level 2 if you haven't already. You should also buy the scroll for the Izuna Drop in addition to restocking on whatever health potions you feel you need.
- Once you finish shopping, head up the stairs and take note of the locked double doors in the center. From here, go left around the corner and into the room to find a chest containing a Life of the Gods.
- Leave this room and head to the opposite side to find another unlocked door. Enter through here and go through the next door to walk right into an ambush at the Crew Compartment. Eliminate all of the enemies here, including the ones that bust in through the window to open the door locks. Head through the recently unlocked side door to find yourself in another hallway with doors lining the sides.
- Turn left and head down the hallway and go through the double doors to unlock them. Head back in once the doors are unlocked and enter first door on your left.
- Here you'll find your first Golden Scarab(1) and a Map of Tairon. Once you obtain these two items, enter the elevator and press the button.
- Round the U shaped room to another elevator and head down further.
- Soldiers will be waiting for you here. You can take them out easily with your upgraded Dragon Sword and Flying Swallow attack. Once they're finished, enter the door next to the elevator to find a chest containing a Life of the Gods.
- Enter the elevator and return to the upper level. Take a couple of steps forward and enter the door on your left.
- Proceed down the hallway and you'll get attacked by two soldiers. Take them out and continue down the hallway. Go through the door and you'll wind up at the bottom of the right spiral staircase in the main deck. Save and then proceed through the next door.
- Continue along the bridge to the next door. As soon as you enter this next room, look to your left to find a box that contains free arrows. Once you're fully stocked on arrows, go forward and break all of the boxes for some extra yellow essence.
- Turn the crank in this room by continuously pressing the X button. You won't get far however, as enemies will storm the room after a couple of turns. Deal with them, and then continue turning the crank.
- When you open the door, walk to the edge and wait for a little. Soon two soldiers will appear on the other side and will start shooting you with their guns. Take them out with your bow before proceeding.
- Once the soldiers are dead, grab the rope connecting the two parts of the zeppelin and start shimmying to the other side.
- After landing on the other side, proceed forward and be ready for a guard right around the corner. After he's dead, continue around the corner to the other end where you'll find a chest containing and Elixir of Spiritual Life.
- Head back, and look along the wall to your right for a window with tape all over it. Break the window, hop in, and go crazy with destroying everything in this room. This will unlock all of the doors on the Zeppelin.
- Time to backtrack all the way to where you started this level, the living quarters. Open the door at the very end of the hallway to find yourself in a cargo storage room.
- Make your way to the back of this room by climbing over the various boxes to find two chests containing an Elixir of the Devil Way and a Talisman of Rebirth, and a Golden Scarab(2).
- We're done treasure hunting for now, so head back to the Main Deck and enter those double doors you unlocked earlier.
- Go down the hallway through the gray door at the end. Two soldiers will be waiting for you at the top of these stairs, so be ready for them. They'll probably be shooting at you as you're running up, so use a couple of roll jumps to avoid their fire. After they're dead, face the staircase and wall run up the fence to your right. More enemies will be waiting for you up here.
- Once the enemies are dead, run up the giant box to your left. Then wall jump off the wall to your left to end up on a secret catwalk where you'll find a Golden Scarab(3).
- Jump down and proceed along the catwalk, making sure to open the chest containing a Great Spirit Elixir to your right.
- When you come to the edge, there will be several platforms that you must jump across to reach the other side. Before you start jumping, get out your bow and pick off the enemies that will appear on the other side.
- Once the hindrances are gone, jump to the right platform, then to the left platform, and then jump to the other side.
- Head into the alcove and set up between the wall and the box. Jump off the wall to your left on to the box. Then jump off the wall with the red lights on to another catwalk.
- NOTE:If you are playing Ninja Gaiden Black, there will be a save point at the back of this catwalk.
- You'll find two enemies here. Kill them as efficiently as you can because you have a boss battle coming up soon.
- Once they're dead you have a choice. You can run all the way back and save at the Fore Cabin so that if you die on the boss, you don't have to worry about any enemies. Or you can proceed across the catwalk, go to where the ladder is, jump off the left and right walls until you reach a tunnel and activate the switch to unlock the hatch above the ladder. When you're ready, climb the ladder to face the next boss.
BOSS: Cyborg
- No walls to save you here. You're going to have to take this guy head on. Thankfully, he's a lot easier than the previous bosses.
- When he charges his laser that is your cue to run up and hit him with a Flying Swallow (jump forward + Y).
- NOTE: If you're playing Ninja Gaiden Black or have the hurricane packs downloaded, the Flying Swallow will be ineffective. Instead, use Ryu's dashing double slash (run and press X twice,) then roll away.
- If you're too far away to get the Flying Swallow on time, just run around in a circle to avoid his laser blasts.
- Aside from his laser, this boss can also grab you if you stand close to him for too long. It is obviously unblockable and is very painful, so don't get greedy and start attacking him recklessly when close.
- Sometimes the boss will jump and crash down, causing a force-field to appear around him. When this goes up, just keep your distance and wait for it to wear off.
- If he's at low health, his lasers will be too fast for you to dodge by running in a circle. Your best bet for when that happens is just simply to stand still. He'll have to be at a very low amount of health though.
- Just keep up the pattern of keeping your distance, running in and hitting him while he's charging, rolling away, and repeating the process and he'll fall in no time.

Chapter 4 - Imperial City Infiltration
- As soon as you start, turn around and save your game at the dragon statue.
- Head down the ramp to be met with several soldiers. You should be able to take these guys out with relative ease by now. Try to throw some ultimate techniques in there using the instant charge/jump charge combo to increase your yellow essence.
- Continue along the path until you reach the Twin Serpents Plaza.
- Right when you enter the plaza, hang a left to find a fenced off section where you can open a chest containing a Great Spirit Elixir.
- Travel towards the large arch with the blue line and defeat the enemies lying in wait. Once they're taken care of, proceed through the door.
- To the left of where you came in is a corpse holding a Guillotine Throw scroll.
- Towards the back of this area where the fence is, you'll find a corpse who can give you a resupply of arrows. Stock up if you're low. Once you're done, head towards the door with the orange dot to trigger an ambush. Defeat all of the enemies and then head through the door.
- As soon as you walk through the door, you'll be greeted by three soldiers. Give them a proper greeting of your own.
- Continue going straight down this alleyway until you find a Stone Tablet (Top) Then back track and make a right down the stairs, taking out all of the soldiers in your way.
- Hang a right at the bottom of the stairs. When you reach the end of the path, take out your bow and snipe the two enemies on the platforms to your northeast and east positions. Once they're taken care of, run off the edge where you see the blue gutter to jump over and hang on to it. Shimmy to the right and pull yourself up when you reach the hidden alcove to find a chest containing a Life of the Gods. Get back on the gutter and return to where you came from.
- Go to the top of the stair case and run along the wall to reach the platform where the soldier was shooting at you. It's a tough jump, but you can make it. Jump off the wall and press X to get you some extra distance. As soon as you land, take out your bow and aim at the spot you just came from. Two soldiers will come out and start shooting at you. Take them out with your bow.
- Grab the rope above you and shimmy to the left until you arrive at the next platform. Open the chest to find a Lives of the Thousand Gods. Use it right away to increase your health bar.
- Jump down and go through the door with the two yellow jewels.
- You'll now be at the Clock Tower Plaza, a place you'll be revisiting a lot throughout the game. Head straight past the fancy door and make a right to find a corpse holding the Nunchaku. The nunchaku are fun to use, but as far as usefulness goes, the Dragon Sword will prove to be a much better weapon throughout the game.
- Head back to the main area of the plaza and head left until you reach Muramasa's shop. A cutscene will highlight it for you. Enter the shop to meet Muramasa in person.
- While you're here, let's make sure we have all of the stuff that we should have by now. Your Dragon Sword should be upgraded to level 2, you should have the Art of the Inferno, and the technique scroll for the Izuna Drop. If you have all of those things, a sufficient amount of health potions, and some extra yellow essence, you should get an Armlet of the Sun or Moon. Which one you get is up to you, and ultimately comes down to whether you favor defense or offense.
- Be sure to talk to Muramasa as well to get a Life of the Gods for collecting at least one Golden Scarab.
- Once you've taken care of all your needs at the shop, head outside. Take a couple steps towards the green jeweled door and you'll trigger another ambush. Turn around and meet your assailants head on with a Flying Swallow attack. If you're lucky, you'll take one guy out with one blow, and can use the essence he leaves to charge an ultimate attack. The black soldiers are now equipped with grenade launchers, so be wary not to get hit by them.
- Once all of the enemies are taken care of, Go into the small blue outlined door on the right side. You'll be attacked as you head up the stairs and turn the corner, so be ready for a fight.
- When you make it all the way up the stairs, be prepared for your first tough fight against a group of black ninjas.
- Black ninjas are completely different from any normal enemy you've faced so far. They will dodge and block intelligently, throw explosive shurikens your way constantly, and have much more health than standard soldiers. Use the counter-attack liberally here. If you can knock a ninja off his feet, you can follow it up with a Flying Swallow and then attack him normally from there. Connecting with an Izuna Drop is an instant kill and will likely damage any ninjas in the surrounding area, so make good use of it. If you get stuck with an incendiary shuriken, if you can roll right before it blows up, you'll negate the damage.
- Your reward for defeating these guys is worth it. Open the chest here to find a Spirit of the Devils. Use it right now to increase your ki level, allowing you to perform another ninpo attack.
- Head back to the green jeweled door and flip the switch to unlock it. Proceed through the door and make a left to find a Golden Scarab(4) in the fountain.
- If you have the confidence to take on more black ninjas, take the right path all the way down until the road splits to the right again. Run along the left wall, then jump to run off the back wall, and then jump again to land on the platform. Drop down, and take a couple of steps forward to trigger a ninja ambush. Once again, Izuna Drops work great here. Take out one ninja, and use his essence with a jump charge to perform some quick and easy UTs. This will make quick work of the ninjas and will get you a large amount of yellow essence at the same time.
- Once the ninjas are taken care of, grab the chest in this room to snag a bunch of every color of essence.
- Leave through the gate and follow the path until you come across a small staircase. When you turn the corner, you'll be attacked by two black ninjas.
- After you've dispatched the ninjas, make a left into a small alley where you can jump off the walls to reach a platform up above.
- Here you'll see several gaps. You want to jump across the first one, and run along the wall on the right for the second one.
- Continue along the path, collecting Suke's Diary from a corpse and a Golden Scarab(5) in plain sight. When you reach the end you'll find a chest containing a Great Devil Elixir and a switch that will open the fancy door in the Plaza. Flip the switch and jump down to take care of the enemies.
- When you're done eliminating the soldier threat, head into the multi-jeweled door.
- Travel all the way down Pleasure Street. You'll be stopped and told that you need a ticket in order to enter Han's Bar.
- Before we get the ticket, there's a dragon statue to your right where you can save your game.
- In addition to that, there's a new projectile weapon for us to find. To get it, turn back and line yourself up with the zig zagging alley. You see all of those blue stripes? Use those as guides as you wall run along all of the walls, to get on the platform at the end. You have to jump right at the end of each wall if you want to get the height required to make it onto the platform. On the last jump, press X to get a little extra boost. At the top of the platform you'll find the Windmill Shuriken, and a giant silver X that you can use to replenish your health.
- Drop down and go to the very end of the alley to find a Golden Scarab(6).
- We're finished here, so exit out of Pleasure Street and head back to Muramasa's Shop, dealing with all of the soldiers on the way.
- Once in Muramasa's Shop, buy anything to earn the ticket to Han's Bar. If you want to be a real cheapskate, you can just buy one arrow for 10 essence.
- Ticket in hand, blaze a path to Han's Bar in Pleasure Street to complete this chapter.
Chapter 5 - The City of Fiends
- When you start, explore the rooftop a bit to find a chest containing the Lily Key, and a dragon statue where you can save your game. Once you've saved, drop down the trap door.
- Go through the doorway leading outside to find a chest containing an Elixir of Spiritual Life. Head down the stairs, eliminating the three soldiers blocking your path, until you reach the bottom.
- Right when you enter the next room, check to your left to find a chest containing another Elixir of Spiritual Life. Continue down the hallway and get ready to fight more soldiers as soon as you round the corner.
- Continue down the stairs at the end of the hallway until you reach the bottom level of Han's Bar. Here you'll find an arcade machine that won't be of much use to you until you get unlock old Ninja Gaiden games, an Elixir of the Devil Way, and a Map of Dworku.
- Exit Han's Bar and take care of all of the soldiers in the area. Head back through the door with the two yellow jewels and enter the door with the lily symbol. Soldiers will be shooting at you from above, but as long as you keep moving, they shouldn't hit you.
- Defeat more soldiers, and then continue down the alley until you reach what appears to be a dead end. To get up on to the platform, you have to run across the wall on your right, jump off and run on the wall in front of you, and then jump again to land on the platform. Once you're on the platform, open the chest to find another Elixir of Spiritual Life.
- Continue down the alley and get ready to fight a group of ninjas once you reach Moat Road. You should be used to fighting these guys by now.
- After the ninjas are dead, continue along Moat Road until you run into the red jeweled door. You can save your game at the dragon statue to the left.
- Flip the switch to unlock the red jeweled door, but don't enter it yet. Instead, head up the nearby stairs and eliminate all of the soldiers in the area.
- Enter the blue jeweled door and be careful of the soldier with the grenade launcher. Roll jump over to them and take them out.
- About halfway up the path, there will be a chest containing a Key of Pegasus. On the opposite side you'll see a Golden Scarab(7) on a hard to reach platform. To get it, use the same wall run technique that you used earlier to get onto the high platform.
- Once you have the scarab, jump down to find yourself back on Moat Road. You'll have to fight against the three ninjas again, so take them out as efficiently as you can.
- Once they're done, continue along Moat Road the same way you would go to get to the red jeweled door. When you reach a gated door though, use the pegasus key to open it and flip the switch.
- Go back to the red jeweled door and save your game. Then make your way up the stairs, eliminate the soldiers once again, and proceed across the bridge you just lowered.
- There's a switch to your right that will raise the drawbridge, but there is no need to do so other than to cement the fact that you won't be coming back this way for a while.
- Continue down the path until you reach a save point, at which time you'll once again be attacked by ninjas. Once they're done, you can save your game again and grab the Golden Scarab(8) to the right of the dragon statue.
- Once you've saved and grabbed the scarab, turn around so that your back is facing the dragon statue and head left. Both pathways lead to the same place, but the left path hides a Golden Scarab(9) and a chest containing a Elixir of Spiritual Life in alcoves along the walls to your left.
- Eventually you'll wind up at Monastery Plaza, where the gates will raise and you'll be stuck to fight against several soldiers. Please, you eat soldiers for breakfast.
- When the gates lower, head through the path nearest to the giant metal double doors. You'll be ambushed by a bunch of ninjas, so be on your toes. Try to hug the right wall so you don't get hit when the ninja jumps out of the alley to your left.
- Once the ninjas are no more, head into the alley on the left side to find a chest containing a Great Spirit Elixir.
- Exit the alley and continue down the path to be confronted by, you guessed it, more ninjas. Be conservative with your health potions when trying to take them out, as you're going to be thrust into a series of tough battles in the very near future.
- Once they're dead, proceed down the path until you reach the Monastery Inner Clearing. Upon your arrival, several soldiers will start attacking you. After you've a good number of soldiers, a cutscene will play showing a fiend jumping out and finishing off the last two guards for you. Don't get too comfortable though, because you're next.
Mini-Boss: Three Dino Fiends
- Dino Fiends can be extremely dangerous when they're not in your field of view, so always try to keep them in your sights. They have several dashing attacks that can deal some massive damage if you're not prepared for it.
- The jump charge will save you many headaches here. Even if there are no essences to make it an ultimate technique. It's fast, it's damaging, and it'll put you on the back side of the fiend, where it's only attack is a tail swipe. Be sure to roll out of the way before they manage to hit you with it.
- It may be tempting to abuse the Flying Swallow here, but I'd advice against it. It generally isn't very effective against them and leaves you wide open to their swipes if they block it.
- Instead, normal combos work great if you can catch an opening. Remember to never approach them from the back as they'll just swipe you with their tail.
- The big thing to watch out for is their bite, which is telegraphed by the fiend lifting its head. As soon as you see this, roll out of the way
- If you have ninpo to spare, the Art of the Inferno ninpo will take care of a dino in one shot.
- Once all three are dead, you'll get a cutscene, and will immediately be thrown into the level boss battle.
BOSS: Tentacle Monster
- This guy is a piece of cake for the most part, but his attacks can be damaging.
- He's only really got three real attacks and one defensive maneuver.
- He likes to swipe his tentacles across the floor, easily avoidable by jumping over them. He'll swipe once one way, and then once coming back.
- His most dangerous attack is also his rarest. If you're standing still, he'll grab you with his tentacle, slam you around a couple of times, and then throw you. This deals massive damage so keep moving at all times.
- Finally, he'll shoot some fireballs out of his top. They're slow and easy to see where they're about to fall, so it shouldn't be much of a problem.
- His defensive tactic is most annoying as he'll start flailing his tentacles in a circle. While he's doing this, you'll take damage if you try to attack him, so wait until his tentacle seizure stops.
- As far as strategy goes, simply use the Flying Swallow to cut off his two tentacles, and then wail on his body while his eye is open. To make things go faster, you can use the Fire Wheel ninpo to deal extra damage, or you can absorb the essence that the tentacles give you to charge a level 2 ultimate technique.
- Once he's dead, Rachel will get spit out, bad guys will talk, and you'll have beaten the chapter.

Chapter 6 - The Monastery
- Before you head into the monastery, turn around to find two chests containing a Life of the Gods and a Great Spirit Elixir. Save your game at the dragon statue as well.
- Go inside and climb the stairs, collecting the Elixir of Spiritual Life in the chest along the way. Switch to your shuriken as your projectile weapon to get rid of the bats that inhabit the next hallway.
- Once you reach the end of the hallway, drop down to find a Muramasa statue. Be sure to restock on as much health as you think you need, show him your scarabs to get an armlet of potency, and if you have some left over essence, buy a wooden sword to start upgrading it. The wooden sword will become a very powerful weapon once it's upgraded to maximum, but until then it's basically useless.
- Once your finished shopping, head outside. There will be a chest to your right containing an Elixir of the Devil Way. Pick it up quickly because you'll soon be attacked by a group of new enemies.
- These Yellow Fiends will be replacing the soldiers as your new main enemy, so get used to how they fight. Their main attack involves them hopping backwards and then leaping towards you, stabbing you twice with their claws. You should be able to easily counter this and follow up with a quick Flying Swallow while they're down. They also like to disappear into the ground and pop up nearby to swipe at you. You can follow where they are by the black spot on the ground making this attack fairly easy to counter as well. Still, these guys are very adept at defense and can make for formidable foes in large groups. Utilize the Izuna Drop (X X Y X X X Y) whenever possible.
- Once you take care of them, pick up the Map of the Monastery from the corpse, head around the corner to save at the dragon statue, and then enter the monastery through the large decorated doors with pillars on the sides.
- Run up the ramps inside the monastery until you make it to the Altar Hall. On the left side there will be a chest containing an Elixir of the Devil Way. Between the two ramps and support columns there will be another chest containing an Elixir of Spiritual Life.
- Approach the altar to start a fight with another new enemy, Reapers. The Flying Swallow is the best option to deal with reapers since they're almost always out of reach of your ground attacks. If you want to knock them down to the floor, hit them with your Air Destruction Slash (jump forward + X). This will bring them down to the floor, allowing you to hit them with ground combos. Their main attacks involve them teleporting near you and hitting you with their tail or scythe. The one that you need to watch out for is when they create a blue circle on the floor. As soon as you see this, roll out of the way because the reaper is about to cut everything in that circle to ribbons.
- Eventually a couple of yellow fiends will join the fight as well. After you defeat them all, find a door on the side opposite of where you found the chest with the elixir of the devil way.
- Go through the door at the end of this small hallway to wind up in the archive. You'll be attacked by several more reapers and yellow fiends. Defeat them all and then run up the stairs where you'll find all sorts of goodies. Break the glasses to find: a Golden Scarab(10), an Elixir of Spiritual Life, Incendiary Shurikens and a Stone Tablet (Right).
- Continue around the corner until you reach a checkered wall. Run up the wall and grab the Golden Scarab(11) at the edge.
- Equip the incendiary shurikens and continue on until you find a cracked checkered wall. Stick it with an incendiary shuriken to break down the wall, revealing more stairs and a door. Take a couple of steps forward to trigger a bunch of enemies to warp in. After they're all taken care of, proceed through the door.
- There's a couple of items here that are fairly well hidden. To get the first group of items, turn to the right of the door you just came in through and go to the edge. If you look down you'll see that if you drop, you'll land on top of the arches and at the end is a treasure chest containing a Great Spirit Elixir. Drop down and open the chest, then run along the wall to land on the platform to your right. There is another chest here containing an Elixir of Spiritual Life.
- Go back to the door you originally came from. If you fall, you can return there by simply going through the archives again. Once you return, travel along the curved walkway, past the door, all the way to the edge. Do the same thing here that you did on the other side to nab a Golden Scarab(12) and a Great Devil Elixir. Return back to the door you passed earlier and enter it.
- Grab the shiny object on the pedestal to obtain Raptor, Deity of Sentiment.
- Read the diary on the desk to find the code 2712 and the directions left, right, right, left. Apply this to the safe next to the elevator. Go left to 2, right to 7, right to 1, and left to 2. The safe will open and you'll find the Book of Eons. As soon as you take the book you'll be attacked by several yellow fiends and reapers.
- Once you take care of all the enemies, leave the Monk's Room and drop down to the altar below. Take care of all the enemies that show up here.
- Jump up on to the altar and place onto it the Book of Eons.
- Drop down into the hole that opens up and kill all the bats that show up. You'll find in this room a dragon statue for you to save at, a corpse holding Incendiary Shurikens, a chest with a Map of the Underground Cemetery, and a Golden Scarab(13).
- Once you've saved, head through the iron door and equip your incendiary shurikens. Stick the cracked wall with one and get ready to run for your life, Indiana Jones style. You'll have to outrun the rolling statue head while avoiding traps laid along the floor.
- The first four traps can be avoided by simply running along either wall. After the fourth spiked floor, hug the left wall to go under the falling statue, then hug the right wall to avoid the next one, then hug the left wall again to go under the last one. After the last statue falls, just stay near the left wall and wall run whenever a spike strip shows up.
- Eventually Ryu will make it out of the tunnel and will wind up swinging from a rope. Swing yourself to the next platform to save and pick up a Great Spirit Elixir in the nearby chest.
- Make your way down until you reach a platform that has two gated doorways and an altar. You'll be attacked by several yellow fiends. Once they're dead, head inside the left most doorway.
- You'll find a new enemy here, the Wasp Fiends. A great weapon that cuts through these guys like a hot knife through butter is the Windmill Shuriken. So equip that and start cutting up some wasps. There are items to be had here, but we'll pick them up on our way back.
- After you've finished exterminating the area of pests, head down the hallway. When you get out of this little cavern, you'll find a save point to your left. Save the game, and then jump down all the way to the bottom. Don't worry, you won't die.
- Kill all of the yellow fiends in the area and then proceed into the tomb. Keep an eye out for a Golden Scarab(14) along the right wall.
- Continue along the path and jump down the hole, killing all the bats in your way. At the end of the path you'll find a chest containing an Elixir of Spiritual Life. Go into the elevator and perform a helm splitter (jump straight up + Y) on the switch in the middle to get it moving.
- Yellow fiends will drop down to make the slow moving elevator ride less boring, so be sure to thank them.
- When the elevator stops, enter the door to the next area. To the right of where you come in there will a chest containing the Vigooran Flail. Head through the door into the ritual room to test these babies out on the multitude of wasps in here.
- Once you kill all of the wasps, a cutscene will play and the room will become filled to the brim with Crypt Fiends. These lugs are extremely slow, but can deal a lot of damage with only a few hits.
- First thing you should do in this room is concentrate on killing the archers that reside on both ends of the room. They'll keep respawning a couple of times so keep at it until they stay dead. When you see them readying their bow, hold block to guard against their arrow.
- Once the archers are dead you can concentrate on the others. All of their attacks are very easy to see coming, so the basic strategy here is to wail away on them until you see them reach back. When you see them about to attack, roll away and concentrate on a different guy. The great thing about these guys is that because they are so slow and have no ranged attacks, you can easily charge a level 2 ultimate attack without any worry.
- After you kill all of the enemies, grab the Grail at the altar and head outside.
- This place will now be crawling with crypt fiends. You don't have to kill them if you don't want to, but because it's so easy to use your ultimate attacks on these guys, this is a great spot to farm some yellow essence. Regardless of what you decide to do, you eventually want to go through the door at the end of the cavern, which will take you back to the elevator.
- Take out your Dragon Sword and once again activate the switch to get the elevator moving. This time crypt fiends will start appearing on your elevator ride. When too many appear, the elevator will stop moving and you'll have to eliminate them before you can start it up again. When the elevator reaches the top, head through the opening and follow the path until you make it to the ladder.
- Go up the ladder and follow the path until you reach the Econtra Babel Specus. Kill the crypt fiends on the bottom floor. If you're using the Dragon Sword, know that your Flying Swallow has a chance of decapitating these guys. Once decapitated, they will wander around aimlessly attacking nothing but air. If you decapitate one, you can save him for later as he won't be much of a threat.
- This next part can be one of the most frustrating sections of the whole game. Travel up the ramp until you're met with three crypt fiends with bows. Use the Art of Inferno ninpo to get rid of the first two, and then use your bow to get rid of the third. After they're all dead, jump across all of the platforms, making sure that you don't fall down. If you fall, the archers will respawn and you'll have to use some potions to refill your ki in order to take them down again.
- Continue up the ramp and save your game at the top. Enter the cavern, hop up the steps, kill the bats, and position yourself between the large grey pillars on the far end of the room. Bounce off the walls until you reach a small alcove where you'll find a Golden Scarab(15).
- Jump across all of the platforms here, making sure to open the chest containing a Life of the Gods on the third platform. Continue up the steps and head out through the gated door.
- Once outside, place the grail on to the altar, and get ready for a boss fight.
BOSS - T-Rex Skeleton
- This boss is pretty easy, but he has one move that can take out nearly 3/4s of your life bar which makes this battle very tense. You'll know he's about to use it when his head pulls back and the camera centers in on it. As soon as this happens, get the hell out of there. Jump roll to the very edge of the screen as fast as possible.
- Aside from that, all of his attacks aren't very dangerous. He'll constantly bombard you with bones which can be blocked or avoided by simply jump rolling around.
- He also uses a tail swipe that will come when he switches from his back two hind legs. Just jump over it to avoid it.
- The way to beat this boss is simply to use the Flying Swallow repeatedly on his feet. It's really that simple. Flying swallow, roll away, roll jump for a little bit to avoid his bones, Flying Swallow again, wash, rinse, repeat. As long as you're careful to avoid his bite and his tail swipes, this should be an easy victory.
- Blip.tv: Ninja Gaiden Walkthrough - BOSS #1: T-Rex Skeleton (Time: 1:57)
Chapter 7 - Hidden Underground
- Pick up your reward for beating the T-Rex, a Lives of the Thousand Gods.
- Go through the same gated doorway that you recently came from and return to the area where you last saved. Save your game, and then jump down to the very bottom of the cavern.
- Look around the walls here for another Golden Scarab(16). Once you find it, head through the door.
- There will be four crypt fiends with bows here, so be careful on how you approach them.
- Once they're dead, you'll find a Muramasa statue. You should have collected a lot of essence from the previous level, so use it to upgrade your Dragon Sword to level three, and your flails to level two. Once that's done, trade in your scarabs and you should receive a Lives of the Thousand Gods. Restock on health potions if you need to, and then be on your way.
- Continue down the hallway until you find a dragon statue and a treasure chest containing a Map of the Hidden Underground Save your game and then head into the next room but don't go on the bridge yet. Instead, look to your left and right to find a Golden Scarab(17) and a chest containing a Life of the Gods.
- Now proceed on to the bridge, which will collapse leaving you to fend for your life against several crypt fiends and yellow fiends. You don't have to kill these guys if you don't want to. They'll respawn every time you re-enter this room. Whatever you decide to do, you eventually want to end up in the room with the blue marker on it.
- Kill the archer in front of you and then grab a resupply of arrows from the corpse. At the other end of this room are two bow carrying fiends who will make your life a living hell if you try to cross this obstacle course with them still alive. So snipe them first before proceeding.
- Once they're dead, get another resupply of arrows, and shoot the switch to your right to create a blue bridge of light connecting the two ends of the room. You should be able to follow the bridge and avoid the first two swinging spiked balls easily. When you reach the gap between the bridges, slow down the two remaining spiked balls by shooting the switches above them. This should make your passage much more manageable.
- After you make it across, press the blue button and drop down. You'll find a Golden Scarab(18) underneath the platform you just fell from. Go to the other side of the room to find a chest containing a Great Spirit Elixir. Go up the stairs, refill yourself with arrows, and then head outside.
- As I said, the enemies here will respawn every time you enter, so you can choose to ignore them or defeat them. Head into the room with the red marker this time around.
- Open the chest here to get another Great Spirit Elixir. Once again, you'll have snipers on the other end of the room, so get out your bow and take them out. Try to make every shot count because there are no arrow refills here, and you'll still need a few to slow down the swinging spiked balls.
- The first two spiked balls can be avoided easily. The last three though are tricky. Slow down all of them and try to time your jump so that you make it past all three in one go.
- Once you're across press the red button to unlock the door outside. Jump down and run to the other side of the room to find a chest containing and Elixir of the Devil Way.
- Go up the stairs and head back outside.
- Head into the room you just unlocked to meet an old friend.
Mini-Boss: Tentacle Monster v.2
- This guy is pretty much the same as he was before, and should actually be even easier if you've upgraded your sword and/or flails to their max level.
- Same tactics as last time. Flying swallow to cut off the tentacles, then wail away on the body once the eyes open.
- Watch out for when his tentacles start flailing. When this happens, just wait for them to stop, then continue using the Flying Swallow.
- Once he goes down, take the Lives of the Thousand Gods that he drops and exit the room.
- Turn right immediately and position yourself between the wall and the pillar that just appeared. Bounce off the walls until you reach the top where you'll find your very first Jewel of the Demon Seal on the chair. Use this to power up one of your ninpo. The only one you can improve right now is the Art of Inferno, and I'd recommend doing so.
- Proceed through the doorway to find a save point. Save your game and then head down the long hallway which is guarded by several crypt fiends. As always, first take out the ones with the bow.
- Once they're all dead, proceed forward and examine the corpse to find a new ninpo, The Art of the Ice Storm.
- Head down the ramp and take care of the bats. When you enter The Chamber of Everlasting Sleep, head to the left side and run along the wall to jump on the platform in the back. Once you land on it, it will go down, allowing you to go to the right and grab statue of Wolf, Deity of Wisdom. Also be sure to grab the Skull Key from the sarcophagus as you won't be able to leave here without it.
- With the skull key in hand, head right and open the door.
- Continue through the cavern, killing the bats along the way, until a cutscene plays that floods the cavern with water.
- When you regain control, dive down to pick up the Golden Scarab(19) that's lying on the floor. You can also save by going through the underwater tunnel.
- After you've saved, swim towards the elevator and take it up to the Monk's Room.
- As soon as you step out of the elevator you'll be attacked by several ninjas. Once you take them out, read the journal again on the desk for a new combination. This time you'll get the numbers 1410 and the directions left, right, left, right. Apply this to the safe to get a Life of the Gods.
- Exit the room, jump down to the ground level, but before you trigger the boss battle by heading towards the altar, go back to the Archives and defeat all of the enemies to get a Spirit of the Devils.
- Now approach the altar to fight the infamous Alma.
BOSS: Alma
- Alma is tough. She's definitely the hardest boss you'll have faced since the horseman captain, but with good evasive skills, aggressive tactics, and your Flying Swallow attack, you should be able to take her down.
- Your main tactic here is to knock her off her feet by connecting with the Flying Swallow. This is easier said than done as Alma will often dodge it and then try to hit you with an attack of her own. Don't let this discourage you though. Keep at it. Whenever you miss the Flying Swallow, immediately start roll jumping around the arena. Roll jumping will let you avoid pretty much all of Alma's projectiles.
- When you hit with the Flying Swallow, Alma will be knocked on her ass, leaving her completely open to a quick combo. As always, don't be greedy. Get one combo in, and then roll away since Alma is likely to use an attack that will suck you up if you're anywhere near her, allowing her to beat you down.
- Keep it up and eventually Alma will fall, ending this chapter.
- Blip.tv: Ninja Gaiden Walkthrough - BOSS #1: Alma (Time: 2:10)
Chapter 8 - Tairon Under Alert
- When the chapter begins, head back into the monastery and dig up Rachel's War Hammer. It can be found towards the back along the left side near some rubble. It's not a very practical weapon compared to the Dragon Sword and vigooran flails, but it is needed to open some hidden pathways.
- Once you've gotten the hammer, leave the monastery and exit through the large gate.
- Meet the new and improved Elite Soldiers. They might not be as agile as the ninjas or yellow fiends, but they more than make up for it in terms of firepower. Roll jump towards them to avoid taking damage from their machine guns and unleash whatever combos you've got to take them out. As always, the Izuna Drop works wonders.
- Once they're all dead, head up the big staircase and turn the corner to find more soldiers waiting for you.
- Continue along the path until you find the save point you used in the earlier level that was next to a Golden Scarab. Save your game, turn around and head straight. Take the path all the way down and flip the switch to lower the draw bridge. If you have arrows, snipe the turrets on top of the vehicles to make things a little easier on you. If you're out of arrows, use the windmill shuriken to take them out once you get close. Some of these guys have rocket launchers, so utilize the roll jump to its fullest capacity.
- Once you're done playing with these soldiers, head into the blue jeweled door.
- Roll jump your way towards these soldiers to avoid getting hit by rockets or machine gun fire. Take the rocket launcher soldier out first since close range rockets spells lots of pain for you.
- After they're all taken care of, throw an incendiary shuriken to break the wall at the back. Open the chest to find a Great Spirit Elixir.
- NOTE:In Ninja Gaiden Black, this chest contains a Smoke Bomb.
- Continue along the path and open the door to unlock it on both sides. Head to the right, taking out all of the soldiers along the way. Once you reach the top of the staircase, head right and open the gate with the skull symbol on it. Grab the Golden Scarab(20) on the floor, open the chest to find a Great Spirit Elixir, and use the Muramasa statue to restock on whatever you need.
- After you finish shopping, head to the back of this area and wall jump off of the left wall to land on the balcony. Then do it again to land on the balcony above.
- Enter through the doorway and pick up the Strongbow at the end of the path.
- Head back to the entrance of this building and notice that there is an alcove hiding a Golden Scarab(21) slightly to the left. To get this scarab, face the wall diagonally, and wall run into the alcove.
- You should have 20 scarabs by now, so use the Muramasa statue and trade in your scarabs for the Dabilahro sword.
- Exit through the skull door and enter the orange jeweled door to find yourself at the military gate.
- You'll immediately be shot at by turrets, so be sure to return the favor. Go into your first person aiming, and take out the gunners of each turret. If you start taking too much damage, roll jump around until there's a break in their fire.
- Once they're dead, you will be attacked by a helicopter. There's no way to kill it right now, so roll jump over to the fence at the back and hold the block button. Eventually it'll get bored and leave you alone.
- Take out your bow and aim towards the blue outlined window, across from the fence. An enemy will appear and will start shooting rockets at you. Before he gets the chance to do this, take him out.
- Once he's dead, go back to the room where you found the strongbow, position yourself by the window, and shoot the blue switch in the watchtower directly across from you. It'll take one arrow to break the glass and one arrow to hit the switch.
- After the switch has been hit, the gate will open, allowing you to infiltrate the military base. But that'll be saved for next chapter, as this one will be done as soon as you go through the newly opened gate.
Chapter 9 - The Military Supply Base
- Save your game and proceed down the long tunnel. Head through the door and get ready to take out three soldiers.
- Continue down the tunnel until you reach the outside. Turn left at the exit to find a Golden Scarab(22).
- In the distance you should see an armored car and two watch towers. Take out all you can with your bow, and then roll jump towards the car and take out the remainder with your windmill shuriken, being sure to be wary of the rocket launcher soldiers that come out of the armored car.
- Once everything is dead, grab the fallen Warehouse Key and head towards the warehouse door. There is a box here containing an unlimited supply Explosive Arrows, so stock up and head inside.
- There's a lot of treasure hidden here, so take a moment to search around for it. There is an Elixir of Spiritual Life immediately to the left of the entrance, an Elixir of the Devil Way and a Life of the Gods hidden in crates in the middle trench between two trains, and two Golden Scarabs. The first Golden Scarab(23) can be grabbed by running all the way to the right of the entrance until you reach a gray box car. Go to the side facing away from the entrance, run up the wall of the boxcar, and press Y at the peak of your jump. This should put you over the railing where you can pick up the scarab.
- TIP: There is a shortcut that will let you skip a good portion of this puzzle. When you're on top of the box car with the scarab, run to the edge near the scarab. Align yourself with the middle of the brown strip on the wall in front of you. Try to run across the wall at this point, jump off, press X, and then press Y, to see if you can land on the stairway leading up to the control room. If you manage to pull off this shortcut, skip to #15 of this walkthrough.
- Once you've gotten all of the goodies that you can grab right now, head up the stairs near the entrance. At the top of the stairs and to the left you'll find a chest containing a bunch of essence.
- Continue along the catwalk until you trigger a cutscene that will introduce a new annoying enemy, the Drones. These annoying flies will shoot sweeping laser beams that cannot be blocks and will knock you flying. If they're far away, shoot them with your bow, otherwise take them down with your Windmill Shuriken.
- It'll take a long time, but keep killing drones until they stop respawning, as their lasers will make the platforming here a nightmare.
- Once all the drones are dead, proceed up to the top floor and flip the switch to turn on the lights. Then proceed down the path all the way to the other side to turn on another switch which will turn on the crane carrying the platform you'll need to make it across.
- Jump down and head to the tower by the last row of trains to find another switch. Press it to start up another crane.
- Now head back up the stairs and travel down the catwalk until you reach the stairs that take you to the third level. Don't go up the stairs though. Instead, turn the corner and examine the box here to find some APFSDS Cores, which are really powerful armor piercing arrows.
- Wait for the crane to bring the platform to you and then jump on to it. Jump on to the middle train when the crane brings you close to it. Jump to the next train and wait for the next platform. Jump to the next platform and grab the chest to find a Great Spirit Elixir.
- Continue along this catwalk until you reach the stairs
- Head up the stairs and turn right to find a chest containing an Elixir of Spiritual Life.
- Follow the path until you reach the door. Before you go into the room, run up the wall to find another Golden Scarab(24) on the roof.
- Jump back down and enter the door. Pick up the Shutter Control Card Key and the Map of the Military Supply Base.
- Exit the room and jump down to the ground level. Run to the end opposite of where you came in to find a switch with a red light. Use the shutter control card key here to open the shutters. This will take you to the Locomotive Turntable.
- As soon as you enter, the doors will lock, and you'll be faced with several respawning soldiers. Take care of all of them and then look for a save point in an open garage. There will also be a chest containing an Elixir of Spiritual Life. Save your game because the next few areas can be a little tricky.
- Enter through the door that just unlocked and head forwards to trigger a cutscene. The very second the cutscene ends and you regain control, roll out of the way as the tank will immediately fire at you.
Mini-Boss - Tank x2
- The tank will turn its head to fire at you in roughly five second intervals, so you have time to get off about three, maybe four APFSDS Cores between its shots. You don't have to be in first person in order to hit the tank. It's a big enough target for the auto-lock on to hit.
- The problem is that the gunner will constantly shoot at you while you're stationary, so use one of those arrows to take him out temporarily.
- When you're avoiding the tank's shells, you should be constantly roll jumping around the battlefield. One shot from the tank will take off a considerable amount of health, so always keep your health above a quarter of your life bar.
- When the tank falls, another one will come to take its place. There is no difference between their tactics, so just keep up what you did against the last one.
- If you run out of APFSDS Cores or Explosive Arrows, there are boxes on both sides that contain both variety of arrows.
- Once the tanks are dead, an elevator will activate. Before going in though, refill on both kinds of arrows, and get the chest to the right of the elevator to find a Great Spirit Elixir.
- Go up the elevator and turn right to save your game.
- Then go across the bridge to be met by two soldiers with rocket launchers. As always, roll jump from side to side to avoid their rockets as you approach them. Once you defeat them, you'll be attacked by that helicopter from earlier. This time however, you've got what you need to take it down.
BOSS - Helicopter
- Equip your APFSDS Cores and immediately start drilling the helicopter with arrows. It'll shoot at you with its machine gun as it flies overhead, but the damage that it deals isn't significant enough to cause you to stop shooting.
- Once it flies over head, turn around and keep on hitting it with arrows. Once it starts shooting missiles, that's your cue to start roll jumping away.
- When it goes under the bridge, it will shoot a total of about 12 missiles in two sets. After you avoid the two sets of missiles, continue drilling it with APFSDS Cores as it flies away. You'll likely need to refill on APFSDS Cores, so check the boxes on both sides of the bridge. Explosive arrows work too, but not as well.
- When the helicopter lines himself up against you, he's going to go on a bombing run. Make sure not to be directly under it when it flies over you.
- All in all, this isn't that difficult of a battle. As long as you avoid the missiles and the bombs and constantly bombard it with arrows while it flies away, you should take the helicopter down in no time.
- Blip.tv: Ninja Gaiden Walkthrough - BOSS #6:Helicopter (Time: 1:47)
- Once the helicopter is dead, refill on arrows, save your game again, and head to the end of the bridge that was previously locked. Continue all the way down to the end of this path to find a chest containing an Elixir of Spiritual Life and a Muramasa statue.
- After you stock up on all you need, position yourself between the narrow walls and start bouncing up. There will be a Golden Scarab(25) to your right when you reach the top.
- Proceed through the door to arrive at the rooftop. There will be a chest containing a Great Devil Elixir to your left right when you enter. There will also be several soldiers to your right. Take them all down, and restock on explosive arrows if you need them around the far right corner.
- This next section can be frustrating if you don't know how to handle it. Take out your bow and look at the structure in the distance. You'll have about 4 guys over there all shooting rockets at you simultaneously. Your goal is not to shoot the soldiers, but rather the 9 satellite dishes that line each level of the structure.
- Take your time. Shoot out one dish, roll jump away for a bit, take out another dish, roll jump away, and repeat. Don't worry about shooting the soldiers. They'll just respawn anyway. You can shoot down the rockets by hitting them with an arrow. This is actually easier than it sounds, but it's still risky.
- Don't forget to refill your explosive arrows at the box in the corner.
- Once the tower explodes, head out through the far right door.
- Equip your windmill shuriken to take care of the drones that guard this area.
- Run along the wall to get to cross the gap and continue along the path until you reach a door on your right. There will be three rocket launcher soldiers scrunched together in this small room, so close the distance quickly and take them out. Open the chest to find an Elixir of the Devil Way.
- Exit the room, head down the stairs, and enter the elevator.
- Enter the next room and kill the soldiers that guard it. The door here will be locked, but you will find a chest with a Life of the Gods around the stairs at the bottom.
- Backtrack to the room where the three rocket launcher soldiers were. Kill them again to have one drop the Control Room Key.
- Once again, exit this room, go down the elevator, into the door, down the stairs, and through the door that you can now unlock.
- Flip the switch to end chapter
Chapter 10 - The Aquaduct
- Get ready for a long and fairly challenging chapter.
- There's a nearby crate containing explosive arrows and a chest containing a Life of the Gods right near the start.
- It may seem a little strange, but head outside through the metal gate, run towards the manhole cover, go back through the metal gate, and go back once again to the manhole cover to trigger a cutscene. Pink Fiends will burst out of the manhole and start to attack you.
- These guys are similar to the yellow fiends you fought in the Monastery, but are even more aggressive. Their attack patterns are still the same though, so the same tactics still apply when dealing with them.
- Once you kill them all, drop down the manhole. There will be lots of bats in here, so take them out with shurikens and/or an ultimate attack. Once they're dead, save your game.
- Head through the door and get ready to deal with several pink fiends. Once they're dead and done with, go through the door and down the stairs to Aquaduct B2. There will be more pink fiends waiting for you on the stairway.
- Once you reach Aquaduct B2, make a left and head into the first opening on your right. Take this down into Aquaduct B3.
- There are a couple of things to do here, but first you must kill the fiends that warp in. First thing you should do is save at the dragon statue. There will also be a chest containing a Great Spirit Elixir. Then, head over to the small doorway which is actually an elevator.
- Take the elevator down to wind up in an empty room with a treasure chest at the end. You should already sense that it's a trap, but grab the chest anyway to receive a Jewel of the Demon Seal. Make your way back to the elevator and you'll be stopped by a horde of Bug Fiends.
- These little guys are surprisingly tough. Their armor will usually guard them from the Flying Swallow, they deal a heavy amount of damage when they jump into you, and there are about a million of them on screen at once. Ultimate techniques are absolutely essential here. Remember that by holding L, you won't collect any essence, but you can still roll jump. Use this tactic to keep a defensive stance as you roll to an open location and do a jump charge to instantly charge your ultimate technique. Since it's a crowded area and there are so many bugs, you're almost guaranteed to hit something.
- Keep killing the bugs and collecting the essence until they stop respawning. Leave and then enter again if you wish to defeat them all over again, this time earning a Talisman of Rebirth. You can do this later if you want as well.
- Once you're back on B3, save and then enter the door nearest to the save point. This will take you to the Hall of Balance.
- The cutscene will show the treasure chest you need to get, so head to the left wall, and run up it to grab on to a ledge. Shimmy to the right and pull yourself up to find a chest containing the Key of the Insect. Jump down and exit the same way you came in.
- Save your game if you wish, and head straight towards the opening with the gray walls. Use a continuous wall run to go from the left wall, to the back wall, and up to the platform on your right.
- When you reach Aquaduct B2, make a right and head through the door at the end of the path.
- You'll immediately be attacked by more pink fiends. Defeat all of them if you wish, and then head through the large door with the insects on it.
Mini-boss - Electric Eel
- This guy is a piece of cake. He's got one move that you need to watch out for, which is his charge attack. You'll know it's coming when he goes into his hole and starts slithering out slowly. When he does this, immediately move to the side.
- His other attacks include shooting a ball of electricity at you, electrifying the water by slamming his head into it, and sweeping across the stage with his head.
- When he starts shooting balls of electricity at you, roll right when you see him cock his head back.
- When he stretches out and rolls his head to a side, he's going to sweep. Get to the middle and do a standing jump to avoid it. Once he misses, he's totally vulnerable so let loose with the most powerful ground combos you have.
- As a general rule of thumb with this boss, you should always be near the side until you see him about to sweep. Doing so puts you out of reach of his charge, thereby negating his only real dangerous move. Just make sure to recognize when he's about to sweep so you can jump over it.
- Once the eel falls, collect the Art of the Inazuma ninpo and continue through the tunnel, but stop when you enter. Turn around and run up the wall to find another Golden Scarab(26).
- Now continue through the tunnel to find that you've ended up at the top level of the hall of balance. There is a treasure chest to the right after you exit the tunnel which contains several kinds of essence.
- Continue along the path and be sure to open the chest in the center containing the Red Tablet of the Stream. You'll also find another Golden Scarab(27) up here.
- Continue exploring here and you'll find a chest containing a Life of the Gods in the cavern opposite of where you entered.
- There is nothing left to be done here for now, so drop down to the bottom of the Hall of Balance and exit through the door to return to Aquaduct B3.
- Save your game and then head up the slope to your right and through the door. Defeat all of the fiends here and then bounce up to the top level.
- Behind you there will be a chest containing a Spirit of the Devils. Use it to increase your Ki.
- Proceed to the other side and collect the chest containing a Great Spirit Elixir. There will also be a Golden Scarab(28) on the right side.
- Insert the red tablet into the pedestal to drain the water from the room below.
- Pink fiends will storm the room. Kill them all and then return all the way back to Aquaduct B2. You can get there by running along the gray walls in Aquaduct B3 remember?
- Once you arrive at Aquaduct B2, make a left and enter the door at the very end of the path.
- Grab the Statue of the Water Spirit, and leave the room.
- Return to Aquaduct B3 and once again head towards the ramp that leads up to the room where you placed the red tablet. Instead of going up the ramp and through the door though, look around the right wall for an opening that leads to a place for you to put the statue you just got. Pick up Suke's Diary from the corpse if you really want to as well. Once you place the statue in place, head back and save your game. Tough boss fight coming up.
- After you save the game, return to the door you just opened and proceed forward. Jump down the hole and press Y to kill any bats along the way. If you want some extra essence or health, hang around here and throw shurikens at the bats.
- Once you're done, proceed forward and look to the left to find a Golden Scarab(29).
- Continue all the way down the path until you're stopped by a cutscene. This time you have to deal with two of them.
Mini-Boss - Electric Eel x2
- While one of these guys is easy, having to deal with two at the same time makes things much trickier. For one, you can't stay out of the range of their charge, making it a much bigger threat.
- Still, even with two as opposed to one, the same tricks still apply here. You just have to be much more careful this time around. Jump over them when they sweep the ground and then unleash combo after combo until they fall. You can also use the bow and windmill shuriken, but I find them risky because the recovery time is long enough to put you at risk for getting hit by their charge. But hey, if it works for you, then by all means, go for it.
- One effective strategy that you might want to try is going to the left corner of the stage, outside of the range of their charge attack, and start charging your ultimate technique. When an eel tries to swipe you, let it rip on them to avoid the damage that you would've taken from the swipe, while dealing a good deal of damage to the eel. Obviously, if they start shooting lightning at you, this strategy doesn't work.
- Blip.tv: Ninja Gaiden Walkthrough - BOSS #7:Electric Eel x2 (Time: 2:27)
- After you defeat the eels, there are three tunnels that open up. The left tunnel houses a Golden Scarab(30), the right tunnel holds a chest containing a Life of the Gods, and the middle tunnel is where you need to go.
- Press on through the cavern, making sure to pick up the Great Spirit Elixir in the chest on your way. Once you reach an area with a bunch of platforms, you'll be attacked by more pink fiends. Dispatch them, and then work your way up the platforms to the top.
- There will be a chest with a Great Devil Elixir waiting for you at the top. Continue through the cavern and pick up the Elixir of Spiritual Life from the chest next to the door.
- Enter the door and equip your shuriken to take care of all of the bats in this area. There is another corpse here holding a diary.
- Continue down this long cavern until you run into your old friends, the wasp fiends. Equip the windmill shuriken and take them all out. Throw in some ultimate techniques in there as well to make things go by even faster. Once they're all dead, grab the Blue Tablet of the Stream from the chest.
- Backtrack all the way back to the bottom of the area with all of the platforms and take the path way on the right (assuming your back is facing the platforms.)
- You'll fight some more pink fiends down this path, so defeat them all and check the nearby corpse for Incendiary Shurikens. You'll also find another chest in here containing an Elixir of Spiritual Life.
- Continue down the path to find a cracked wall. You know what to do here. Stick it with an incendiary shuriken and be on your way. You'll wind up back at the cavern that is right before the spot where you fought the two eels.
- Head to the spot where you fell down and bounce up the walls until you reach the top.
- Now you're back in Aquaduct B3. You should know the way to Aquaduct B2 by now, so head over there and make a right. Go through the door and defeat all of the pink fiends that inhabit the room. Once all of the fiends are dead, enter the only door you haven't entered in this room. The one along the side wall.
- Head up the stairs and make a left. There is a Muramasa statue waiting for you here. Stock up, trade in your scarabs, upgrade the weapons you like, and then head left to find a chest containing a Great Spirit Elixir.
- Continue up the path to the Blue Water Reservoir. Place the tablet into the pedestal to drain the water.
- Jump down and collect the Golden Scarab(31). You'll be attacked by more pink fiends, but by now they should be pretty easy for you.
- Take the path all the way down to find yourself once again at the Hall of Balance. Now that the hall is balanced however, we can now open the big door. Head through the door to the Peristyle Passage.
- It may seem like the enemies here are endless, but they're not. After you kill every single one of them, a chest will appear containing a Lives of the Thousand Gods. A nice reward for a hard fought battle. Once you've eliminated all of the fiends, go to the end of the hall, bounce up between the two walls by the statue, and press Y to come crashing down on to the switch.
- Before you enter the door, head back to the entrance and look for the first two consecutive pillars next to the entrance. Position yourself between these two pillars and bounce up to the top to find a Golden Scarab(32).
- Head through the door you just unlocked and kill all of the bats. Once they're all dead, run up the door, jump off at the very peak of your jump, and press Y in an attempt to land on top of a narrow ledge. Follow this around to find a chest containing a Life of the Gods.
- Enter through the door and take out all of the fiends in this room. Go through the doorway to your left and pick up the Golden Scarab(33) to your left. Pick up some arrows from the corpse while you're at it as well.
- Wall run around this room to reach the platform above.
- Take out your bow and shoot the red switch to cause a wall to be lowered, allowing you to run across it to reach the other side.
- Make your way up the stairs and across the narrow bridge. There is a chest containing a Great Spirit Elixir to your right.
- Continue along the path until you get to the edge. Jump and aim for the branch to swing to the next platform. Grab the Brand of Valor from the pedestal and save your game. Make sure to grab the Golden Scarab(34) behind the pillar near the save point as well.
- Jump down, place the sword in the center piece, and get ready for a tough boss battle.
BOSS - Skull Pterodactyl
- This boss has really thick skin. Even when you're hitting it's weak spots, which are its chest and its head, you still won't do very much damage to it. This means you're going to need even more patience than previous boss fights for this one.
- Thankfully, there is an easy way to take this boss down. You want to wait until the boss charges to the side where the larger door is. This should be the opposite side of where the boss initially starts out at.
- In the mean time, drill his head with regular arrows and avoid his laser attacks. When the laser comes vertically, roll to the side. If it sweeps horizontally, roll forward or backwards.
- When he's on the side with the large door, Flying Swallow into his chest to end up behind him. The only thing that he can do to you in this position is jump and hit you when he lands. Hit his backside with your X Y X X X combo repeatedly, but immediately stop the combo and roll out of the way if he jumps.
- Eventually, he should cry out in pain and take a knee. If you can get around to the front fast enough, you should have time to charge a level 1 ultimate attack and then follow it up with a quick combo. Otherwise, just hit him with another X Y X X X combo.
- If he jumps on to the ledge, take out your bow and shoot at his head with explosive or normal arrows. The APFSDS Cores don't do that much damage for whatever reason.
- Repeat this process and you should take him down with minimal injuries. Once he falls, this long chapter will finally come to an end.

Chapter 11 - The Path to Zarkhan
- When the chapter begins, turn around to pick up a Map of the Moat and a Great Spirit Elixir from the two chests.
- Save your game and jump into the water. Swim to the right and dive down to swim through the hole at the bottom of the gate to find a Golden Scarab(35) and a chest containing a Gold Medallion.
- Return the piece of land you started on and then jump off the other side. Going on land again prevents you from having to tangle with the Fish Fiends. Dive down and head into the pipe.
- Follow the pipe until you reach a small room with bubbles. If you dive down you will find a corpse carrying a combination code that reads 0971. You'll use this in just a bit. Continue down the tunnel until you reach the outside. Be sure to get some air as ninja's can't breathe underwater. Not yet anyway.
- There will be two fishes and two drones here to double the hindrances. The only ones you can take care of for now are the drones, so swim up to them and take a swipe with your sword. Once they're taken care of, swim towards the next underwater tunnel.
- You'll see a safe here but hold your horses. You can't open it yet. Turn right when you reach the safe and continue down the tunnel and check the corpse on the left side to find the Owl's Eye. This item will illuminate the safe enough for you to enter the combination.
- Head back to the safe and enter the numbers 0971. Be quick about it because your air will continue to run out as you're entering the combo.
- Proceed through the door until you reach a cave with some solid land. Pull yourself up and examine the corpse to find a Spear Gun. While its use remains exclusive to this level, the spear gun will help you take down those annoying fish that you've had to avoid up until now.
- There is also a Muramasa statue for all of your shopping needs. Be sure to trade in your scarabs and stock up on health potions if you need them.
- Once you're done, go back into the water and enter the circular tunnel. Take the tunnel to the outside where you'll find more drones. Jump up to platform on the other side and take out your windmill shuriken to take them out. Make sure to grab the Golden Scarab(36) over here as well. When you're done, head through the next tunnel.
- You'll wind up in another cave, except this one is full of bats. Pull yourself up onto land and get rid of them. Save your game at the dragon statue and then grab the two chests here containing a Great Spirit Elixir and a Life of the Gods.
- There is a doorway to your right, but we'll leave that for later. For now, head back into the water and into the next tunnel.
- When you reach the end you'll see an area with a large door in front of you. You can't open this door yet, so make a U-Turn into the square tunnel to your right.
- Continue down the tunnel to another open area. Swim to the right and dive down to collect another Golden Scarab(37).
- Take out your spear gun and mash the X button to kill all of the fish in the area.
- Once the fish are out of the picture, swim towards the area straight ahead from where you entered. At the middle gate, there will be an opening at the bottom that you can swim through.
- Swim through the opening at the bottom of the sunken ship and open the chest to find the Hand Crank.
- Once you have the hand crank in... well in hand, go to the top of the sunken ship and take out the drones with your windmill shuriken. Then place the hand crank on to the winch.
- Doing so will open up another area at the bottom of the sunken shop, so return to where you found the hand crank and this time go all the way to the end. Swim upwards and turn around to find another Golden Scarab(38) on the right, and an Oxygen Cylinder on the left.
- Now that you have the oxygen cylinder, you can stay underwater for as long as you'd like. Not that you'd like to stay underwater for any longer than you absolutely had to.
- Head out of the sunken ship area and swim towards the maze looking structure straight ahead. Since you now don't have to worry about drowning, you can make it all the way through.
- Be sure to open the chest in the maze containing a Life of the Gods.
- At the end of the maze will be a Silver Medallion. Time to put those medallions to good use.
- Leave the maze the same way you came in and backtrack all the way back to the cave where you last saved the game.
- Save your game and then enter the doorway that you passed by earlier. You'll be attacked by a horde of wasp fiends. Defeat them and then place both medallions into the altar. This will open that underwater door.
- Leave this place, save your game, and go back into the water. Swim towards the tunnel and proceed through the door you just unlocked.
- If you want to feel safe, you can eliminate all of the enemies in here with your spear gun. Or you can just ignore them and swim towards the giant underwater rift.
- You'll find yourself once again in the Hidden Underground. Swim around the walls here until you find a small tunnel. It should be on the opposite side of the entrance.
- Follow the long tunnel and make a right when the path splits. You'll remember this room as the one where you picked up the skull key.
- Go to where the coffin is and then swim straight up. You'll find a Golden Scarab(39) at the very top.
- Proceed through the doorway at the bottom and continue through the tunnel until you reach the elevator.
- There will be lots of fishes in here. If you're feeling courageous, you can blow by them and swim for the tunnel at the bottom. Otherwise, kill them all with your spear gun.
- Either way, you're going to want to head through the tunnel eventually. Once you reach the end, save your game and get ready for another boss fight.
BOSS: Doku
- Doku can be one tough evil samurai spirit. His main attacks are fast and damaging, he blocks attacks when he really shouldn't be able to, and he's got a grab that not only takes a humongous chunk out of your life, but also replenishes a good deal of his own.
- There is no real secret trick to making this battle easy like there was with the previous boss. You can try using the Flying Swallow, as your main attack, but it only hits about half the time and when it misses, it leaves you wide open to get attacked or grabbed.
- The strategy that worked for me is being able to keep the pressure on him without being reckless. Keep hitting him with three to four hit combos whenever possible, but always be on guard to roll and dodge whenever he starts up one his attacks. By keeping the pressure on him, you increase the chances of a sword clash taking place. When a clash does occur, mash on the buttons as fast as you can to momentarily stun Doku and unleash a quick combo on him.
- Doku has a rather impressive repertoire of moves that you need to watch out for. The big ones that you should plan on never getting hit by are his grab and his dashing slash.
- When you see Doku reach back with his left hand, immediately roll out of the way. If he does manage to grab you, mash the buttons as fast as you can to not only prevent a lot of damage, but also to get out of his grab before he sticks you with his sword and starts siphoning your health. He usually likes to follow up a successful grab with a sword throw, so be on the lookout for that.
- His dashing slash also takes a while for him to get going, but it travels a long way extremely fast and does a ridiculous amount of damage. It's unblockable so your only defense against it is to jump or roll out of the way.
- Doku's other attacks aren't as dangerous as the above two, but still require some knowledge and caution. When he reaches back with his sword and looks at the floor, he's about to use a shockwave attack that will send energy out in a circle around him. Simply jump over it and punish him during his recovery time.
- When you're up close, he has a mean looking combo attack that you'll know by the way his sword glows red when he's using it. Once he gets going with this combo he can't be stopped, so stay away from him until he finishes and then move in to attack.
- Doku also has a habit of blocking your attacks and then sidestepping to unleash a counter attack. This is why you should stick only to three or four hit combos because the later combo hits tend to be slower and require more recovery time, which makes you an easy target for his counter. So get in a pattern of dodging his swipes, unleashing a three hit combos (like X X Y), and then prepare to dodge again.
- Above all else, be patient. Doku is a tough boss and it may take a while to whittle down his health, but eventually he'll fall, ending chapter 11.
- Blip.tv: Ninja Gaiden Walkthrough - BOSS #9:Doku (Time: 1:21)
Chapter 12 - The Caverns
- Here comes another long and challenging chapter.
- When you regain control, pick up the sword that Doku dropped. The Kitetsu is a very strong and versatile sword that is brought down by the fact that it saps your health while you use it. I'd highly discourage using the Kitetsu until you get the Armlet of Tranquility from Muramasa for getting 40 Golden Scarabs.
- You can head back down the lift and save your game, or you can head through the other doorway to move on.
- Turn around once you enter through the doorway and look to your right. There will be a Golden Scarab(40) tucked away in the corner.
- After collecting the scarab, turn around and activate the switch on the wall.
- This will cause some platforms in the arena to move.
- First activate the two switches on the bottom floor. They will be on opposite sides of each other.
- Go to the platform with the switch on the west wall (in relation to the lift entrance), and wall run to the next platform.
- Wall run again off the two walls on to the higher platform with another switch.
- Flip the switch, then jump across the gap. Open the chest to find a Great Spirit Elixir.
- Jump to the next platform and throw the switch.
- Jump back to platform with the switch you activated in step #10 of this walkthrough. Flip the switch again.
- Jump down to the ground floor and this time head to the platform on the right side of the lift entrance. Don't flip the switch though. Instead, wall run off the two walls to jump on to the platform right next to the lift entrance.
- Jump on top of the door frame to find a Golden Scarab(41).
- Go back on the platform below and then wall run across the right wall, to the back wall, and then to the small wall on the left to wind up on another platform.
- Jump to the next platform and then jump into the spectator seats.
- Climb up the steps and open the two chests to your left and right containing a Great Devil Elixir and a Life of the Gods.
- Continue around the path and flip the switch to raise a platform in the room on the bottom floor. Don't go down just yet though. Continue along the path to find another chest with a Life of the Gods and another Golden Scarab(42).
- Jump down, head through the doorway, and wall run up the platforms you just raised.
- Continue down this long path, making sure to snag the chest with the Great Spirit Elixir along the way.
- This next area is one of those seemingly endless respawning enemy challenges. Defeat all of the yellow and pink fiends to earn a Lives of the Thousand Gods.
- Once you've claimed your prize, continue down this path to find a save point, then go through the door opposite of the giant staircase to wind up back in Tairon.
- Open the gate and continue forward until you meet a new enemy. These soldier fiends are faster, more agile, and more dangerous than both the pink and yellow fiends, so approach with caution. They are especially fond of grabs, so keep moving and don't overblock.
- When you're done, go through the green jeweled door, take out more soldier fiends, and then enter Muramasa's shop. He'll talk to you about your sword, spirit power, jewels, dark dragons, yadayada. Talk to him again when he finishes to do some shopping. I'd recommend upgrading your Dabilahro to level three if you haven't already. It'll prove useful against the fiends you'll soon be fighting.
- When you're done with Muramasa, exit the shop and return through the green jeweled door.
- The three soldier fiends that you dealt with earlier will be back, so dispatch them just as you did last time. Before going back to the great bridge though, make a right where the road splits and notice the door with the purple crack. You can now bust this door down with your War Hammer.
- Head through the broken down doorway and open the chest in front of you for an Elixir of Spiritual Life. That's not the only thing in here however. Return to the entrance and align yourself with the wall on the right. Wall run across the two walls to the platform at the top, and then wall run again across to another platform where you'll find a chest containing a Life of the Gods.
- Now return to where you slaughtered all of those pink and yellow fiends and make a right, killing all of the fiends on your way.
- You'll find three statue heads in this area along with the dragon statue. Take out your War Hammer and destroy all three to find a Golden Scarab(43) and a Life of the Gods.
- Save your game and then proceed down the path until you reach a waterfall. Dive down to the bottom of the pool of water and swim around to find a chest containing another Life of the Gods. There is also a Golden Scarab(44) down here lying on a rock in the corner.
- Surface and pull yourself on the land near the waterfall. There is a chest here containing a Great Spirit Elixir. Take it and then head into the waterfall cave.
- Follow the path to the edge and then jump down. There will be a lot of bats here with not a lot of room, so be careful. You don't want to die to bats do you?
- Examine the corpse to find a Map of the Caverns.
- Dive into the small pool of water and resurface on the other end.
- Pull yourself up, follow the path, and slide down the ice to reach the Ice Cavern.
- You'll immediately be attacked by several dino fiends. These guys are the same as they were in chapter 5, but now that you have a big ass weapon like the Dabilahro, they should be much easier. Don't get fancy, just use the standard X X X X combo. After you land it, get out of the way because they're likely to bite you right after. Remember to never attack them from the back as they'll just swat you with their tail.
- Once they're all dead, wall run and back flip up to the platform. Open the chest here to find a Great Spirit Elixir.
- Head into the tunnel and jump the gap to find a dragon statue. Save your game and then jump down into the ravine below.
- There will be some pink fiends down here. You can kill them if you want, but they'll be back later and you'll revisit this place plenty of times in the future.
- Jump up the steps and break the thin wall of ice. Continue inside where you'll be ambushed by more pink fiends.
- After they're dead, wall run up the large wall and pull yourself up.
- Head to the right and crash down through the ice. More fiends await you in this room.
- Jump up the steps and take the Shield of Vigor.
- Head all the way back to the last save point. The one that you saved at before you jumped into the ravine.
- Save your game and place the shield on the door to open it.
- Don't ask how, but you've now gone from an ice theme cavern to a fire themed cavern.
- Pick up the Stone Tablet (Left) in front of you and the Iron Ore to the right.
- An easy way to get rid of these dino fiends is to charge up your Dabilahro's Ultimate Attack to level two and let it loose while staying outside of the range of their flames. It should only take one level 2 and one level 1 ultimate technique to take them down.
- Lava is a funny thing in Ninja Gaiden. If you jump into it, you'll take a bit of damage, but after that initial chunk of damage, you can run around freely with your life bar diminishing very little very second. However, if you try to jump around in the lava, you'll find yourself dying very quickly. So as a general rule of thumb, if you fall into lava, just run to the nearest piece of land. Don't jump.
- With that little tip in mind, jump and wall run from platform to platform until you reach the other side of this lava river. Make sure to collect the Iron Ore along the way.
- When you reach the steam jets, roll under the first one and then grab the ledge to your left. Shimmy to the right until you stop just in front of the jet. After the steam shoots out twice, it will give you a pause that is long enough for you to shimmy across.
- Once you reach the end, head straight and jump over the gap to reach a platform with a locked door and two pieces of Iron Ore. Take both of them and then jump back to the platform you just came from.
- Hang a right at the intersection to collide with several dino fiends. There's no need to waste the health on these guys and they're not worth the effort, so I'd suggest blowing past them. Jump up the wall on the other side and continue down the path.
- Jump and press Y over the switch to activate it. This will trigger a bridge to rise from the lava.
- Ignore the dino fiends and cross the bridge by making use of the pole in the middle. Swing over after the dino's fire breath attack ends.
- Jump to the other side and do the usual over at Muramasa's statue.
- Once you're all stocked up, wall run across the nearby walls to be pitted in an area with more dino fiends. Once they're taken care of, pick up the Iron Ore and jump to the platform with the lava moat around it.
- Enter the door, center the camera by pressing R, and walk off the right edge to find a Golden Scarab(45).
- Jump back up and leap on to the see-saw. When your side falls, run up to the other side and jump into the doorway. Kill all the bats in this room for some extra health and essence.
- Continue down the hallway until you reach the ruins. Head down to the far cauldron and place four pieces of iron ore into the pot. The molten ore will flow into the next room, creating a cog.
- Before you backtrack to the ice ruins, jump on the see-saw again and use the same trick you used before to get to the top level on this side. In this opening, there will be more Iron Ore (Not that you need any more), and a chest full of essence.
- Drop down and enter the door. Begin your backtracking to the Ice Cavern.
- Save at the save point and drop down into the ravine.
- Follow this familiar path until you arrive at the ruins. Take the Cog of Vigoor and then save at the dragon statue to your left. Past the save point you will find a Golden Scarab (46)
- Follow this path to find a sheet of thin ice at your feet. Crash through it to fight your first miniboss of the level.
Miniboss - Ice Abomination
- This handsome creature is actually easier than he looks. He's only has a few attacks, and all of them are easy to dodge.
- His first and most common attack involves him pounding the ground and causing shards of ice to shoot up from below Ryu's feet. Avoid by roll jumping around the area.
- His other attacks mainly consist of him jumping around the arena or using his long arms to punch you. The punches are very slow, but they also have deceptively long range. As long as you keep roll jumping around, these should never hit you.
- Whenever he misses one of his attacks, he'll be wide open. Hit him with the best combos you've got for whatever weapon you wish to use.
- Once he falls, take the Eye of Ice that he drops and proceed through the door.
- Bounce up the walls to the top. You may have noticed a chest in the middle. To get it, run off the cliff and drop down while holding forward. You'll grab the edge of the alcove with the chest, allowing you to pull yourself up and claim the Jewel of the Demon Seal.
- NOTE: In Ninja Gaiden Black, this chest will actually contain a Great Spirit Elixir.
- Fall down and bounce up again. You'll find yourself in familiar territory again. Backtrack to the fire cavern. Save your game at the entrance while you're there.
- Proceed down the fire river and across the steam jets. Once you cross the steam jet section, if you're willing to take a little bit of damage, you can just head straight and jump to the right into the lava below. Make sure not to jump while into the lava if it means jumping into more lava.
- Jump on to the solid land in front of you and use the Muramasa shop if you're low on potions. Once you're done shopping, place the cog into the door farthest from the Muramasa statue.
- Enter the door and open the chest to your right to find a Great Spirit Elixir
- Save your game and proceed down the hallway, but run backwards as soon as you enter the intersection. Fire will blow out from the left side. Once it subsides, run to the left and make another left once you reach the end.
- Hang a right at the next corner and proceed forward, but again backpedal as soon as you reach the next intersection. Fire will come from the right this time.
- When it subsides, go to the left to find a Golden Scarab(47).
- Continue down the path until you reach the end where you'll find a chest containing a Great Spirit Elixir.
- Enter the door when you're ready for another mini boss.
Miniboss - Fire Eel
- This guy basically the same as the electric eels from before, except he shoots a circle of fire instead of a bolt of a electricity. All this really means for you is that instead of rolling to avoid the projectile, just do a standing jump.
- Otherwise, this boss is the exact same thing. Jump over it's sweeps, watch out for its charge, and avoid standing in the center.
- Once the eel is defeated, it will drop an Eye of Flame. Pick it up and continue along the path.
- You'll see a pressure switch at the beginning of the next room, but don't press it yet. Explore the room first. To the right is a chest containing a Life of the Gods.
- Return to the switch, but before you press it, let's get our game plan straight. You see those flames in the distance? What the switch will do is temporarily extinguish those flames, allowing you to jump across. As soon as you press the switch, you will jump on to platform in front of you, then on to the large platform, then swing across the two bars. After coming off the bars, you will wall run if you're still holding forward. You don't want to wall run because it's likely to throw you off. When you come off the last bar, don't hold forward and you should just fly into the wall, but land on the ground. From there it's a simple jump to the other side.
- Alright, now that you have your game plan, hit the switch and go for it. I'll wait.
- Back? Good job. Proceed down the hallway and open the door with the eye of flame.
- We're almost done with this level. You'll end up back at Magma Lake. Enter the door you unlocked with the cog and save your game. If you need it, you have a chance to stock up on health too at the Muramasa statue in Magma Lake.
- Once you're saved and stocked up, return to Magma Lake, hit the switch to bring up the bridge, and take a short cut by running up the wall on your right in the middle of the lake.
- Open the door with the face by giving it the two eyes.
- Take the statue Devil, Deity of Immorality and get ready for a fight.
BOSS: Flame Dragon
- First of all, know that you can fight this fight on two levels. The bottom level or the top level. I prefer to fight on the bottom level because you have more reaction time to avoid his moves. If you're having trouble with the bottom level though, try out the top level and maybe things will change. You can reach the top level by activating the switches on either side of the platform.
- The dragon has three main attacks. He'll shoot fireballs at you, create a wall of fire, and bite you. As always, the one you have to watch out for the most is the bite. It's hard to see coming even on the bottom floor, but when you see him lunge towards you, immediately roll to the side. On the upside, if he misses he'll be wide open to attack. If he does manage to grab you, mash the buttons to escape with as little damage as possible.
- His fireballs are hard to avoid since you don't room to roll jump around. Avoiding these is really just a matter of getting the timing down. Once you've got it, the fireballs shouldn't be much of a threat.
- His wall of fire can be blocked by simply maintaining a blocking stance and not moving. It'll break your guard, but he generally wont follow up with anything while you're defenseless.
- Every now and then the dragon will stick his head over your platform. Use this chance to unleash some combos on him. X Y X X X works great with the Dragon Sword.
- Another effective way of dealing damage to the dragon is by hitting him with a ninpo spell like Art of the Inazuma or Art of the Inferno and then drilling him with explosive arrows or APFSDS Cores.
- Whatever method you choose, when you eventually defeat the dragon, he'll drop a Lives of the Thousand Gods. Use it and then travel along his corpse to the door to complete this long chapter.
- Blip.tv: Ninja Gaiden Walkthrough - BOSS #10:Flame Dragon (Time: 2:10)
Chapter 13 - The Fiendish Awakening
- Travel through the cavern, taking the time to kill all of the bats and examining the corpse to find a Map of the Vigooran Underground and San's Diary. You'll eventually come to a room with a save point and a whole lot of wasp fiends.
- Kill all of the wasp fiends in here to receive a Talisman of Rebirth.
- Wall jump around all four walls continuously to eventually make your way up to the top. Open the chest to claim your prize for killing all of those wasp fiends.
- Enter the door to find yourself back at the Underground Waterway. More wasp fiends await.
- You're going to have to backtrack all the way to Tairon. This means going through Aquaduct B3, to B2, to B1, and then heading up the ladder to exit through the manhole that you dropped into way back in chapter 10.
- Once you're back in Tairon, you want to backtrack even further until you reach the Twin Serpents Plaza. Use your maps to help you navigate through the streets.
- Once you reach Drawbridge Hill, you'll run into three soliderified crypt fiends. They're pretty much the same as regular crypt fiends, just a lot more durable. Kill all three to earn a Talisman of Rebirth.
- From Drawbridge Hill, go down the stairs, through the red jeweled door, through the yellow jeweled door, up the stairs, through the orange jeweled door, and then through the plain wooden door to reach the Twin Serpents Plaza.
- Place all three stone tablets onto the pedestal to open up a portal to the Hayabusa Village
- Head to the entrance of the village and look to the left where there is a small shrine. Break the rock here with the War Hammer to find a Jewel of the Demon Seal.
- Head up to the window to enter the room where you found your bow. Drop down through the hole.
- Use the Muramasa Statue here to stock up on whatever you need.
- Exit through the door on the bottom floor.
- Go to where you fought the two Horseman Riders and jump over the fallen pieces of wood.
- Save your game and then take the stairs up to the Graveyard.
- Venture into the Graveyard for a bit and you'll be interrupted by a cutscene. You will now have the True Dragon Blade.
- Continue up this path until you reach a portal.
- Enter the series of portals until you find yourself back at the fire cavern.
- Before you enter the next portal, go through the door on your right and save the game. You're about to fight another boss.
- Once you're all saved and ready, head through the portal and take a couple of steps forward.
BOSS: Alma Version 2
- Your second fight with Alma will be either a walk in the park, or a complete pain in the ass. It's really all dependent on how successful the Flying Swallow manages to be.
- Your main tactic here is to spam the Flying Swallow in an attempt to knock Alma down. If the attack hits, Alma will be stunned for a short period of time, allowing you to wail on her with quick, but damaging combos with your newly acquired True Dragon Sword.
- The problem is, that if the Flying Swallow attack misses, 80% of the time Alma will follow up with her grab attack which can do massive damage. Always always always roll jump away after missing a Flying Swallow. You'll sometimes luck out at Alma will be too late with her grab or she simply won't use the grab at all.
- As far as her other attacks go, there isn't much to be too worried about. All of her projectiles can be avoided by roll jumping around the arena.
- She will also crawl towards you at high speeds and attempt to run you over. She's pretty much invulnerable while she's charging but she can't turn very sharply, so just roll jump to the side to avoid it.
- The Art of the Inferno ninpo is very effective in stunning Alma. Make sure that she is close by when you use it so that when she falls, you can get in plenty of hits while she's stunned.
- Blip.tv: Ninja Gaiden Walkthrough - BOSS #10:Alma v.2 (Time: 2:10)
- Once you defeat Alma you would think that the chapter would end, but we still have a little more work to do. When you regain control, bust down the cracked part of the stairs with your War Hammer and proceed into the pyramid.
- Take the second door on your left and follow the path all the way down, examining the corpse along the way to find the Map of the Pyramid.
- At the end of the path you'll notice an altar with a mirror and two torches. In the mirror the torches are lit, but in reality they are not. Fix this with a fire ninpo like Art of Inferno. This will light the torches and cause a Jewel of the Demon Seal to appear. Grab it and then head back up the hallway.
- Enter the door on the right side and open the chest containing a Great Spirit Elixir.
- Take the Tablet of Water from the wall and place it into the slot next to it with the water symbol. Be prepared to fight off a whole bunch of bugs because as soon as you place the tablet, bug fiends will start appearing by the masses. Use ultimate techniques to take care of them easily.
- Once all of the bugs are dead, leave through the open door and head through the second doorway on the right.
- There is a save point all the way down this path. Once you save, head back and enter the door on your left. Open the chest in this room to find a Life of the Gods.
- Take the Tablet of Fire and go through the door that just opened into the room across from it. Place the tablet into the slot next to the water tablet. Once again, bug fiends will fill the room.
- After all of the bugs are dead, return to the room where you took the fire tablet, and this time take the Tablet of Leaves. Enter through the door you just opened to collect the Serpent, Deity of Creation statue.
- Place the tablet of leaves into the slot with the leaves symbol and you'll have cleared the chapter.
Chapter 14 - Vengeful Spirit
- Exit through the open doorway and turn right to save your game. Then return to the middle section of the pyramid and enter through the moonlit door.
- Take this long path all the way down and turn left after the cutscene interrupts you.
- Inside the doorway will be a room with a chest containing a Great Spirit Elixir, a save point, and a Muramasa Statue.
- Go down the hallway and kill all of the bats in your way. When you get to the end, use the portal to wind up in the fiend realm.
- Here you'll have to fight a bunch of pink fiends. Should be pretty easy work for you by now.
- After you defeat all of the fiends, open the chest to collect the Griffon Key. Return through the portal and save your game again.
- Exit through the doorway and head towards the metal gate on the left side. Use the Griffon Key and proceed along the path.
- A cutscene will stop you before you turn the corner to warn you about the ghost fish up ahead. Heed their warning and take out your Vigooran Flails. Whenever you see the ghost fish charging you, mash the X button while holding forward to continuously whip your flails around, destroying any fish that run into you. Keep this up until you kill all of the fish in the area.
- Once all of the fish have been exterminated, enter the area to your left and open the chest containing a Life of the Gods.
- Continue down the path, up the first flight of stairs, and up the second flight of stairs to your right. Here you'll find Gen's Diary from a corpse to your right, and a chest containing a Great Devil Elixir to your left.
- Go back down the steps and continue forward. You'll see Ghost Doku walk through an opening on the right. You can't follow him yet, so take this path all the way down.
- As you turn the corner you'll be confronted by a new enemy. We'll call him the Crab Fiend on account of his crab-like pincers. These guys are tough, and they're made even tougher with all of the ghost fish flying around. Take the crab fiend down with an art of inferno ninpo to make things much easier. Then exterminate the fish with your flails.
- Once it's all clear, continue down the path and open the chest for a whole mess of essence. Then run up the way and follow the path around to find a chest containing the Key of the Lion. Return to the doorway that Ghost Doku went through and use the key of the lion to enter it.
- Take a left at the split and follow the path to the end to find a Golden Scarab(48).
- Turn around and this time take the right path. Head up the stairs.
- NOTE: In Ninja Gaiden Black, there will be a save point here.
- Explore this area for a bit and you'll find a chest containing a Great Spirit Elixir.
- Go back down the stairs and make a right. When you reach the wall, make a left and get ready to deal with more ghost fish.
- Once they're all dead, continue along the path until it splits. Make a left and then a left again to find another Golden Scarab(49).
- Continue along the path to find even more ghost fish. If they begin to overwhelm you, use the Art of the Inazuma Ninpo to take a chunk of them out immediately.
- At the end of the path you'll find a chest containing a Key of the Lioness.
- Backtrack until you see an opening with a large torch on your right. Proceed through there to be met by more ghost fish and another crab fiend.
- Use ninpo on the crab fiend and the flails on the ghost fish. Once all are dead, it would be a good idea to backtrack to the nearest save point.
- Once you're saved, use the key of the lioness to enter the double doors and get ready to fight Ghost Doku
BOSS: Ghost Doku
- For those who just have the original Ninja Gaiden and haven't downloaded the hurricane packs, Ghost Doku can be defeated pretty easily by just spamming the Flying Swallow.
- If you have the hurricane packs or Ninja Gaiden Black, get ready for a much harder fight.
- Ghost Doku is largely the same as the Doku you fought back in chapter 11, and as such the same tactics apply to beating him. As such I'll just reiterate what you should do, and let you know of the slight differences in their style.
- With Doku you need to use hit and run tactics. Use the True Dragon Sword and hit him with no more than three hit combos whenever you get the chance. As soon as your third hit connects, immediately block and roll away.
- The main move you have to watch out for is his grab, which will not only deal massive damage to you, but will also heal him as well.
- If he starts going into his combo, immediately run away. If you're trapped by a wall, run up it and press Y to go through his final hit and do some damage to him.
- The main differences between Ghost Doku and regular Doku is that Ghost Doku is a hell of a lot faster. It's very difficult to get some breathing room against this boss since he'll just follow you and close the distance.
- At times Ghost Doku will shoot out his hand and pull you close to him. When this happens, mash the buttons to make him release you without taking any damage.
- Utilize your Art of the Inferno here to the fullest. It should be at level 3 by now and should deal a good amount of damage to Doku if it hits.
- Blip.tv: Ninja Gaiden Walkthrough - BOSS #11:Ghost Doku (Time: 1:46)
- Once Ghost Doku goes down, he'll curse Ryu and the chapter will end.
Chapter 15 - The Core
- When the chapter begins, you'll find yourself knee deep in ghost fish. Use ninpo and the flails to get rid of them and then head through the small door.
- Save your game at the dragon statue and then head right to find a chest with a Great Spirit Elixir.
- This time head left down the path until you're met by pink fiends and a crab fiend. Dispatch them however you like and then get the chest to collect a Great Devil Elixir.
- Continue down this path and you'll eventually come across a big door and more ghost fish.
- Kill all the fishes and then head through the door. You're now back at the outskirts of Tairon. Examine the nearby body to collect the Key of the Decayed Soul and Dai's Diary.
- While you're here, I highly suggest making your way back to Muramasa's shop and stock up on everything: arrows, health potions, ki potions, etc. Buy as much as you can, placing extra emphasis on great elixirs, explosive arrows, and APFSDS Cores.
- Once you're ready, go back through the large doors and deal with the newly respawned ghost fish.
- Head down the path to your right until you spot a small section where the path branches. Turn left there and travel across the gravity defying bridge.
- Use the key of the decayed soul on the door ahead to enter the Imperial Palace Core.
- Take a couple of steps forward to trigger red dino fiends to start spawning. The Dabilahro will cut through them like a knife through butter.
- Once they're all dead, place the Raptor statue in the middle of the room. Head through the door you just unlocked.
- Guarding all of these stairways will be ghost fish. Take out your flails and deal with them in the usual manner. Open the chest at the top of the stairs containing a Great Spirit Elixir.
- The next room will have more red dinos along with a bunch of bug fiends. Kill the bug fiends and use their essence to charge ultimate attacks to use on the red dino fiends. This should make this room rather easy.
- Same deal once they're dead. Place the statue in the center, head up the stairs, and kill the ghost fish.
- In the next room you'll face off against a couple of crab fiends and pink fiends. This time you can kill the pink fiends and use their essence to charge an ultimate for use on the crab fiends. Whatever method you decide to use, clear them out, place the statue, climb the stairs, kill the ghost fish, and open the chest containing another Great Spirit Elixir.
- If you want that last Golden Scarab(50), drop down from this ledge where there is an opening.
- If you went for the scarab, you'll have to make your way up again. Either way, enter the next door for your next trial.
- In this room you'll find only crab fiends. The move you should watch out for is when they go underground. If they grab you, they'll pull you down one story and force you to climb those ghost fish infested steps again. Make sure that doesn't happen.
- Once they're dead, place the statue, climb the stairs, kill the ghost fish. At the top you'll find a save point and two chests containing a Great Spirit Elixir and a Great Devil Elixir. Save your game, open the chests, and then enter the glowing portal.
- Welcome once again to the fiend realm. Kill all of the pink fiends here and the Fiend King will teleport you to a new location.
Mini-Boss - Tentacle Monster v.3
- He's exactly the same as before. Flying swallow his tentacles, use their essence to charge an ultimate attack while his eyes are open, repeat until dead.
- After you kill the tentacle monster for the third and final time, you'll be teleported once again to fight more pink fiends. This time however, the Fiend King will be shooting fireballs at you. Whenever you hear him laugh, make sure you are not stationary as his fireballs will hit the ground and cause a pillar of energy to rise up and deal damage to anything that touches it.
- Once you kill all of the pink fiends, you guessed, you'll be teleported again to fight another miniboss.
Mini-Boss - Abomination v.2
- Again, he's exactly the same as before. Roll around the stage to avoid his long arms, roll jump to avoid his ice shards when he's pounding the ground, hit him with a couple of combos whenever he misses an attack, repeat until dead.
- Enter the portal and the Fiend King will decide that it's about time he takes you on himself. I agree.
BOSS: Fiend King
- The Fiend King is actually pretty easy. What you want to do is wait for him to dive at you. He'll spin around in the air whenever he's about to do this. Avoid it, and then punish him with an X X X Y combo with the True Dragon Sword. After you get that one combo off, roll away.
- Every now and then he'll summon pink fiends. This can actually be used to your advantage. Kill the pink fiends with Flying Swallows while you're rolling around and if the Fiend King crashes down while there are still essences floating around, use them to charge an ultimate attack.
- That's pretty much the game plan. Roll jump constantly while the Fiend King is in the air because he's likely to spam pillar creating fire balls. Try to keep ninpo usage to a minimum as you're going to want to save it for the next two bosses.
- When you defeat the Fiend King, pick up the Demon, Deity of Destruction statue and return through the portal.
- Blip.tv: Ninja Gaiden Walkthrough - BOSS #12:Fiend King (Time: 3:15)
- Save your game at the dragon statue. This is your last chance to return to Tairon and shop, so if you're low on supplies, I suggest making the long trip back.
- When you're ready, place the statue in the altar to open the gate at the very top of the core. Head up there and travel up the long bone staircase. After traveling a good ways up, the stairway will collapse and you'll fight your next boss battle.
BOSS: Vigoor Emperor
- I hope you stocked up on those devil elixirs, because this boss is an absolute breeze with them. Simply spam the Art of the Inferno ninpo and the boss will be dead in about five hits.
- If you plan on taking him without using ninpo though, there's a couple of things to know. The boss is only vulnerable in three spots. The two shoulders and the head.
- Pressing left and right on the left stick will move the platform left and right around the boss. Pressing forward and back will move you towards and away from the boss. Holding the left trigger and pressing up and down will move the platform up and down.
- There really isn't much strategy to be said here. The only thing this boss will really do is swing those lasers around. Simply avoid them and make your way towards the vulnerable spots.
BOSS: Vigoor Emperor Phase 2
- Like the first phase, this boss looks very intimidating, but he's actually very simple. Equip your bow when the fight beings and immediately start plugging the head of the boss with whatever arrows you have.
- When he sends his skulls out, avoid them at first, and then start up the Art of the Inferno ninpo when dodging seems impossible. Every skull that runs into you will deal damage to the boss.
- The big thing that you have to avoid is when the head comes off and starts chasing you. It moves fairly slowly so you should be able to dodge it pretty easily. Even if it means jumping into the lava, make sure that you don't get grabbed by the head.
- After it's head returns, shoot a couple of more arrows at it and then get ready to run out of the way if it looks like it is going to jump towards your location.
- Repeat this process of shooting the head, using ninpo to destroy the skulls it sends, and roll jumping to avoid getting bit by the head when it starts chasing you. Eventually the boss will fall without too much trouble.
Chapter 16 - The Dark Dragon Blade
- This is the shortest chapter in the game, but it's also probably the most challenging platforming you'll have to do in the game as well. If you're satisfied with your current supply of items, save your game. If not, reload your last save and try to beat the previous bosses again. Once you save here, there's no turning back.
- The initial bit of platforming is easy and you shouldn't need any guidance. Work your way up to the Dark Dragon Blade and pull it out.
- Align yourself diagonally with the next wall and run across it to land on the small platform. Wall run up to the top of this rock.
- Swing across the three branches and wall run to the next platform.
- Swing across the next branch to trigger another cutscene.
- Wall run up the next platform and then wall run up again to grab the ledge.
- Shimmy to the left until you have a platform above you to pull yourself up.
- Continue until it seems like you have no where to go. Look down and you'll see another platform below.
- Jump down to the platform below, wall run up to the next platform, and then run to the edge where Rachel hangs. Get ready for the final boss fight.
BOSS: Evil Murai
- If you're playing the original Ninja Gaiden without the Hurricane Packs, you can use the usual strategy of spamming the Flying Swallow. This makes the battle extremely easy.
- If you're playing Ninja Gaiden Black, Murai will block the Flying Swallow about 85% of the time and punish you every time you miss. This makes the battle extremely difficult.
- Treat it like another fight against Doku and use hit and run attacks. Remember, be aggressive, but don't be reckless. Use the combo X Y Y for some quick and easy damage.
- This is the last battle in the game so use everything you've got in terms of health potions, demon elixirs, and talismans of rebirth. No need to be conservative here.
- If he uses his ultimate attack and throws down a dark dragon at you, quickly move to an edge of the field, and jump right as the dragon hits the ground.
- Don't worry too much about dying. If you saved at the statue at the bottom of the mountain, you only have to jump up to where the Dark Dragon Blade rests.
